Schneider Electric seeks an in-house legal counsel with 5 to 9 years' experience in commercial contracting and general legal support. This role requires subject matter expertise in drafting, analyzing and negotiating a combination of commercial contracts of varying scope and complexity, and an understanding of the legal and contractual risks associated.
As a member of the Canadian legal team that functions in a multinational company with a global work force, the successful candidate will act as both a business counsel and partner, providing strategic legal support and advice to internal business clients. The role involves continuous communication and serving as a liaison between multiple internal and external stakeholders, as well as clients/vendors across Canada and internationally. The documents to be reviewed and the tasks to be performed could therefore be either in English or French. These are key tasks, essential to the work of the in-house legal counsel, and a good knowledge of both English and French is advisable .

What do you get to do in this position?
To be part of Schneider Electric's Legal team by providing expertise and support to several sectors of the company including, sales, distribution, marketing and procurement with responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
- Drafting, analyzing, providing advice on a combination of commercial contracts of varying scope and complexity;
- Working with internal stakeholders, as well as Schneider Electric clients, vendors and subcontractors to negotiate complex agreements in relation to Schneider Electric's core business;
- Providing legal support to the Schneider Electric departments and business units that are linked to the Schneider Electric core business;
- Advising internal stakeholders on commercial disputes prior to the formal dispute resolution process;
- Provide legal advice and counsel to functional or operational areas managers to ensure that their current or proposed activities, policies, business practices, and transactions comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications.
- Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L. or LL.L.) or Common Law;
- Bar admission in at least one Canadian province;
- 5 to 9 years' prior experience handling, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and providing legal support in a business environment;
- Law firm experience will be considered and prior in-house counsel experience within a corporate legal department is a plus;
- Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, integrity mindset, high-energy, can-do attitude, team spirit, proactive and strong communication skills in multi-cultural environment;
- Ability to present sound arguments with energy and conviction, while understanding and responding to the needs and agendas of the internal clients.
- Business acumen and ability to translate legal advice into clear and actionable guidance for operational teams;
- Strong relationship management skills -- able to function in highly complex global environments often with a high degree of ambiguity and change
