Principal Design Engineer- Valves and Actuators SME

Schneider Electric's Buildings business has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated individual to assume the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for engineering activities related to product evolution and sustaining projects with the objective of customer satisfaction, product quality, and productivity improvement. The engineer will play a leadership role in the completion of engineering analysis to insure the adequate performance, quality and reliability of the product as well as compliance to specific ratings, product specifications, agency and standards requirements.

What will you do?

  • Upon assignment from engineering management, independently lead cross functional teams (Marketing, GSC, Manufacturing, Quality, etc.) in stage gate projects and provide technical expertise to bring assigned projects to completion on time and to budget.
  • Coordinate project scheduling and planning, technical reviews and resource requirements with engineering, factory and line of business management.
  • Using strong problem-solving skills, troubleshoot, understand and complete engineering analysis activities on HVAC valve and actuator assemblies and components to ensure adequate performance, quality and reliability of the product.
  • Practice sound design activities such as 8D problem solving, design reviews, product verification and validation, statistical design, tolerance analysis, engineering change procedures and product documentation creation, validation and release.
  • Consider manufacturing needs, including design for formability, assembly, supplier involvement and component and assembly measurement.
  • Capable of creation and validation of CAD models and drawings for communication with internal and external customers. Experience in prototyping.
  • Responsible for the validation of FAIR / PPEP reports utilizing applied statistical methods and pilot run reviews.
  • Responsible for the review and evaluation of technical reports and analysis performed by internal and external engineering personnel and quality.
  • Serves as a consultant to other engineering groups and provides technical support to quality and marketing in investigating field complaint and returns.
  • Contributes to the continual improvement and best practices of the engineering department.

This position is for a strong, technical engineer with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and 15+ years' experience in the design and support of mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?

  • 15+ years experience in the development of HVAC actuators, valves (ball, globe, gate, etc..) and accessories required.
  • Technical leadership and curiosity, attention to detail and the ability to drive complex projects accurately and quickly into manufacturing through completion preferred.
  • Experienced in various technologies in product design, including but not limited to sandcasting, die casting, forging and metal machining, design of rubber seals, plastic injection molding, prototyping and project management preferred. Experience in gear design, electronic packaging, small motor and motor drivers, metal stamping, GD&T and agency standards a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively think out of the box preferred. Self-motivated and able to fulfill mechanical engineering duties with minimal supervision preferred.
  • Ability to perform design calculations to verify and validate designs to industry and corporate standards preferred. Ability to review and approve related input such as drawings and specifications prepared by technical support staff required. Ability to direct and support engineering technicians required.
  • 5+ years' experience with SolidWorks or ProE/Creo preferred. Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics or other computer aided engineering tools a plus. Strong PC skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Must be able to work well in domestic and global teams from a modern innovative and collaborative design center environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills preferred.
  • Occasional travel required.
