  • The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for customer order engineering activities around complex high power packaged Adjustable Frequency Drive and Solid-State Reduced Voltage (Softstart) systems. The primary responsibilities will be to develop customer specific drive system design packaged for Low Voltage Drive Systems. This position will report to the North American Regional Drive Applications Center Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Works with Designers to develop packaged drive system schematics, panel layouts and Bill of Material to meet the detailed needs of specific customer orders.
  • Works pro-actively with project managers, sales support team and designers to assure that order objectives regarding specification compliance, local requirements, system cost, schedule and design quality are met.
  • Identifies critical technical and design issues and problems, identifies corrective actions, and follows through to completion.
  • Works effectively with manufacturing personnel to resolve problems encountered during the assembly process.
  • Manages the development of customer specific technical documentation per Schneider Electric design requirements.
  • Provides support on post-shipment technical issues as required.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites to support commissioning or other service activities.

This job might be for you if:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Advanced level of English (full professional)
  • At least 1 to 3 years of successful and pertinent experience with drives or industrial controls.
  • Familiarity with basic electrical standards including NEC, UL-508A, and UL 61800-5-1.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Drafting software (AutoCad, ProEngineer, Creo).
  • Ability to effectively design and document drive assemblies given basic conceptual information.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to positively interact with marketing and manufacturing personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
