For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $112,000 - $168,000 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.
The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Manager, Application Design schedules, directs, organizes and manages a group of Application Engineers engaged in engineered to order design and quotation activities
On a typical day for you may:
- Establish objectives by analyzing available courses of action and cost constraints for overall projects.
- Develop plans, schedules, and resource allocation for assigned group tasks within overall project objectives.
- Negotiate with other managerial/professional personnel to assure integration of assigned activities within larger objectives.
- Manages assigned activities by assuring completion within committed objectives, schedules, and costs.
- Trains and mentors team members directly or facilitates training and mentoring activities.
- Provide technical support to other departments by answering questions and requests either directly or through delegation when appropriate.
- Maintain Product and company reputation by assuring proper documentation of engineering activities and by complying with applicable regulations and standards.
- Evaluate employee performance and developmental needs and makes recommendations, observations, reviews and reports where needed and required.
- Evaluate department employee resources. Makes recommendations when lack/excess of resources exists and implements actions where needed and approved to do so.
- Supervise employees within the team and provides regular/required feedback to employees and to management.
- Conduct interviews of candidates for new or replacement positions.
- Works with sales in confirming designs and assist in completing quotes by freely and openly collaborating with sales and other Application Engineers.
- Support sales in customer meetings as needed
- Evaluate and appropriately assign SRs to application engineers.
And on some days you may:
- Be Responsible for the performance and growth of the team.
- Evaluate competition and competitive offering during negotiations, and can present comparisons when required.
- Keep up to date on market conditions and competitive offerings
- Offer value engineering alternatives for bids and keeps staff aware of value engineering opportunities
- Contribute to the development of Templates and quotation standards.
- Assist in Opportunity Meetings and provides feedback when necessary
- Ensure support of Modification jobs internationally
- Provide monthly updates and communications for the sales team
- Ensure finance is provided with price summary sheet, budget cost, and startup cost for all booked jobs
- Track booked jobs and margins
- Ensure PCS quote log is up to date and accurate
- Maintain relationships with vendors and provide AE with updates contact information when applicable.
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Occasional travel (< 15%) may be required.
What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
- 4 year engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- Eight or more years of professional experience in electrical power industry, meeting schedules, and providing technical support.
- File Management Software, JDE, and Microsoft Applications.
- Basic understanding of Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Switchgear Design applications.
- Awareness and understanding of applicable codes, including NEC, NFPA110, UL508, UL891, UL1008 and UL1558
- Keeps others engaged and attentive on a consistent basis by building trust and respect .
- Facilitates agreements that satisfy multiple parties by utilizing effective communication and identifying shared interests
- Gives assignments by clearly defining tasks, makes sure the right tools are in place, and verifies common understanding of assigned tasks so that responsibility is never abdicated in the process.
- Products require different managers working together to meet critical deadlines by utilizing excellent listening skills and willingly supporting other departments
- Focuses on solutions and opportunities when confronted with difficult challenges
