For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $164,000 - $246,000 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive.
The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Leader of Software Operations will manage and maintain Digital Grid's cloud and on-premise environments, specifically within Microsoft Azure and other local infrastructures, supporting critical applications and services. This role will focus on provisioning, configuration, performance monitoring, security governance, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability, reliability, and cost-efficiency. The ideal candidate will leverage automation and scripting to optimize operations and effectively respond to incidents while demonstrating leadership and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Management: Provision and manage resources in Azure and on-premise environments, such as virtual machines, app services, storage accounts, networks, and databases across multiple regions to ensure stability, security and scalability. Supervise and maintain Windows systems at the platform level, ensuring their optimal performance.
- Monitoring and Alerts: Continuously monitor Azure and on-premise environments for performance issues and security alerts using standard tools like Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Nagios, Zabbix, and other monitoring systems. Implement proactive measures to address potential issues before they impact end users.
- Incident Response: Investigate and resolve technical incidents related to Azure services and on-premise systems, coordinating with development teams to identify root causes and implement solutions. Manage a NOC (Network Operations Center) team dedicated to maintaining systems for utility clients
- Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Azure Resource Manager templates, Azure DevOps (YAML), and other tools to automate deployments and configuration management. Create scripts in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and maintenance tasks.
- Cost Optimization: Analyze usage patterns to identify opportunities for cost reduction and optimize resource utilization both in the cloud and on-premise infrastructures.
- Team Leadership: Interview, hire, and train new resources while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Supervise and coordinate global teams in a 24/7 environment across multiple time zones.
- Business Continuity and System Availability: Ensure the continuity of business operations for clients by maintaining high system availability and reliability. Work under pressure and manage teams working in shifts to provide round-the-clock support.
- Database and Network Monitoring: Possess knowledge and capability in managing databases and applications for network and infrastructure monitoring. Utilize tools and applications to monitor network performance and infrastructure health.
Leadership:
- 24/7 Team Management: Lead and manage a global team of software operations professionals working in a 24/7 on-call environment to ensure continuous support and system availability. Coordinate shift schedules and ensure adequate coverage at all times, addressing any staffing issues promptly to maintain seamless operations.
- Team Development: Invest in the professional growth of team members by identifying training needs and providing opportunities for skill development. Mentor and coach team members, helping them to achieve their career goals and enhance their technical and leadership capabilities.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging team members to identify and implement process enhancements. Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to operational excellence and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Collaboration and Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the team and with other departments, ensuring that information flows smoothly and that everyone is aligned with the organization's goals. Organize regular team meetings and one-on-one sessions to discuss progress, address concerns, and share updates.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor team performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics to ensure that objectives are being met. Conduct regular performance reviews and set clear expectations for team members, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Crisis Management: Lead the team in responding to critical incidents and emergencies, ensuring that issues are resolved quickly and efficiently. Develop and implement incident response plans and protocols to minimize downtime and impact on clients.
- Customer Focus: Ensure that the team is focused on delivering high-quality service to clients, maintaining strong relationships and understanding their needs. Work closely with clients to address any concerns and ensure their satisfaction with the services provided.
Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Cloud and On-Premise Management: Extensive experience in managing cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure, as well as on-premise infrastructures. Proficient in provisioning, configuring, and maintaining virtual machines, storage accounts, networks, and databases.
- Windows Systems: Deep knowledge of Windows systems at the platform level, ensuring their optimal performance, security, and reliability.
- Database Management: Proficiency in managing databases, including performance tuning, security, and backup/recovery processes.
- Network and Infrastructure Monitoring: Expertise in using applications and tools for monitoring network performance and infrastructure health, such as Azure Monitor, Nagios, and Zabbix.
- Security Standards: Basic understanding of ISO27001 and IEC62443-2-4 standards for managing secure cyber services. Ability to implement security best practices to protect systems and data.
- Incident Response: Skilled in investigating and resolving security incidents, coordinating with relevant teams to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience in developing and maintaining IaC using Azure Resource Manager templates and other tools to automate deployments and configuration management.
- Scripting Languages: Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, and Bash for automation and maintenance tasks.
- Cost Optimization: Ability to analyze usage patterns and identify opportunities for cost reduction, optimizing resource utilization both in the cloud and on-premise infrastructures.
- Performance Monitoring: Strong skills in continuously monitoring environments for performance issues and security alerts, implementing proactive measures to address potential problems.
Knowledge: Familiarity with Azure Landing Zone and with Azure services, including Azure Service Bus, Azure Function Apps, Azure Active Directory, Azure Networking, and Azure Policy, alongside an understanding of information security management frameworks. Deep knowledge of Windows systems and standard monitoring tools like Nagios, Zabbix, and others. Ability to manage databases and network monitoring applications.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience in software operations, with a strong background in managing Azure and on-premise environments.
- Pressure Management: Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, managing high-stress situations effectively.
- Shift Work: Experience managing teams working in shifts to ensure 24/7 operational support.
- Database Management: Proficiency in managing databases, including Azure Storage and Cosmos, ensuring their performance, security, and reliability.
- Network and Infrastructure Monitoring: Expertise in using applications for monitoring network performance and infrastructure health.
- Windows Systems: In-depth knowledge of Windows systems at the platform level, ensuring their optimal performance and security.
