Cooling Systems Engineer

Schneider Electric's rapidly expanding modular data center line of business is seeking a Cooling Systems Engineer to join our engineering team. The Cooling Systems Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Technical Leaders, Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and other Subject Matter Experts. This position is responsible for taking ownership of the design of mechanical systems and all mechanical documentation throughout the tendering and execution phases of the project lifecycle and will provide support to factory personnel throughout the build, test, and closeout processes.

What will you do?

  • Design of cooling, humidity control, air renovation systems, and critical equipment needs for the construction of the modular data centers.
  • Perform cooling calculations for heat load, cooling capacity, airflow, ventilation, humidity control, and pPUE calculations.
  • Choose appropriate mechanical equipment including coolers, heaters, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, ERVs, and ventilation fans.
  • Design and develop mechanical schedules, piping one-lines, and system sequences of operations.
  • Conduct CFD simulations utilizing Schneider IT Design CFD (training provided) for airflow modeling.
  • Coordinate with other discipline engineers to ensure proper installation and compliance with applicable codes and standards via internal processes and design reviews.
  • Solicit, review, and approve sub-consultant proposals and designs.
  • Participate in customer meetings to discuss design requirements and constraints.
  • Develop Bill of Materials for mechanical components of the system design.
  • Provide support to factory production personnel and site integration teams by answering Requests for Information and providing onsite support as needed.
  • Occasional travel, up to 15%.
  • Participate in lessons learned activities and drive continuous improvement efforts within the team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to simplify complex technical details for various stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaboratively work with subcontractors and specialists for seamless project execution.
  • Enthusiastic about finding creative and innovative solutions and optimizing challenges in daily tasks.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and standards/codes.
  • Proficient in data analysis, troubleshooting, and test setups.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English

Who will you report to?
  • Engineering Manager, Customer Projects and Services.

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC or Thermal Dynamics concentration preferred).
  • 3+ years in cooling system design and implementation, particularly in the data center industry.
  • Proven experience in designing and troubleshooting DX Refrigerant Systems, Chilled Water Systems, Economizer Systems (Air Side, Water Side, Refrigerant), and Airflow Management Systems
  • Experience with Autodesk REVIT, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Bluebeam is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of refrigerant DX system theory and detailed design of chilled water systems

What additional qualifications are preferred?
  • Understanding of data center airflow management architecture and cooling solutions.
  • Experience with Liquid Cooling Systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as TC9.9, Uptime Tier Topology, and ASHRAE 90.1 & 90.4.
  • Knowledge and experience interpreting industry codes such as NFPA, IECC, IBC, IMC, and Refrigerant Safety Codes.
  • Knowledgeable of UL2755 certification requirements.
