Schneider Electric has an opportunity for an Automation & Controls Engineer in our Cedar Rapids, Iowa location on first shift.
This person will be responsible for the continuous improvement of specialized automated assembly & fabrication equipment as well as the innovation of new machine control and data collection methods. Machines and equipment include: automatic conveyor systems, tablet presses, furnaces, automated loading equipment, industrial robots, resistance welders, and more.
What can you do in this position?
Design, update, and continuously improve existing controls systems consisting of: vision systems, ladder logic programs, relay logic, motor controls, operator interfaces, pneumatic systems, and much more.

Install new process control systems like safety interlocks, HMI's for equipment, QR/bar code scanners, scale systems, with SQL and Schneider Electric SCADA/MES data connections.
Identification & elimination of production barriers on production equipment with various levels of automation, including: presses, welders, conveyors, robotic arms, and customized assembly machines
Create, maintain, and keep current all documentation: electrical and pneumatic schematics; panel layouts; PLC programs, operator display, operator interface, and robot programs
Implement and maintain data collection on production equipment using Schneider Electric data collection systems, SQL, and more!
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related 4 year degree
• Strong PLC programming skills, preferably with Schneider Electric PLCs and HMIs
• Strong machine vision skills, preferably with Cognex and Keyence
• Updating and creating electric diagrams/schematics
With Experience In:
• Robotic arm programming
• Pneumatic motion controls
• Variable Frequency Drives
• SCADA System and MES
• Enterprise networking
• SQL programming and query writing
• Process interlocking and Bar/QR Code scanning
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and develop action plans to strategically eliminate barriers
• Ability to prepare, read and interpret written reports, instructions, procedures, and guidelines
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams
• Self-motivated and driven individual desiring to make an immediate impact
• Ability to read, update, and interpret blueprints and schematics
