Main Responsibilities:
Senior Medical Science Liaisons (Sr MSLs) are experienced MSLs, having spent time in an MSL role, they have proven success in building / maintaining external stakeholder relationships and delivering on projects.
Sr MSLs engage with healthcare professionals, institutions and payers in a non-promotional manner using their prior scientific exchange expertise to quickly form partnerships to deliver on the medical strategy, capture and act upon field insights to improve patient pathways and outcomes. Sr. MSL are considered to be a valuable coach and mentor for the MSL team.
Key accountabilities:
Scientific Engagement and Exchange (50%)
Through previous experience of scientific engagement and exchange, Sr. MSLs quickly build and develop enduring needs-based peer-to-peer relationships and networks with healthcare professionals, payers and institutions.
- Sr. MSLs are experienced at understanding perspectives and needs of their stakeholders and can easily adapt to be relevant and valued.
- Sr. MSLs work quickly to identify areas of mutual collaboration and contribute to the development and implementation of strategic field medical engagement plans aligned to the Country Medical Plan.
- Sr. MSLs communicate in an accurate, fair and balanced manner, the benefits, risks, appropriate use and clinical value of our products.
- Sr. MSLs operate independently (with limited supervision) and support the team to navigate complex local health care environments at national, regional and local level.
- Sr. MSLs supply data, facts and observations and lead the collation, analysis and evaluation aspects of the Insights Generation process related to gathering, analysis and evaluating data.
- Sr. MSLs generate and share actionable and valuable insights through appropriate tools in a timely manner and lead efforts on proposed solutions.
- Sr. MSLs support the team with the data analysis and evaluation. Escalation and follow up of critical insights are adhered to.
- Sr. MSLs work closely with office based and field based medical teams to ensure execution of the Country Medical Plans.
- Sr. MSLs lead projects, hold others accountable and deliver results within timelines. They communicate consistently and effectively with internal stakeholders.
- Sr. MSLs, in line with local guidance, develop and maintain an internal stakeholder network, including leadership teams.
- Sr. MSLs contribute scientific and technical expertise in medical material development for internal and external stakeholders, where applicable (aligned with relevant policies).
- Sr. MSLs provide scientific support for internal functions such as commercial, market access, regulatory/PV and R&D regarding scientific trainings and updates.
Sr. MSLs are experienced at supporting data generation and identify opportunities for further data collection by:
- engaging with clinical investigators to support company sponsored trials
- supporting investigator sponsored studies clinical or investigator led (within compliance standards)
- support Real World Evidence development according to local needs
- Coaching and mentoring MSLs: Sr. MSLs improve effectiveness of MSLs by supporting the MSL Manager in coaching and mentoring the team thru optimizing the use of the Scientific Engagement Model and supporting on-boarding and enduring training.
- Project Management: Sr. MSLs initiate, plan, execute, monitor and complete complexed medical projects in a logical sequence within given time and resource constraints
- Complete all MSL SOP trainings and all other corporate assigned compliance trainings.
- Complete the MSL onboarding (and certification) program.
- Commits to applying and continued practice of the Scientific Engagement Model and Insights process.
- Continue to develop and maintain technical therapy area and soft skills.
- Create individual development plan aligned with career aspirations.
Required Education, Experience and Training:
- Minimum 3 years' customer facing medical experience. (required)
- Medical, pharmacy or science degree. (required)
- Fluency in spoken and written business English. (highly regarded)
- An in-depth knowledge of the disease state, therapeutic area, the relevant products in the portfolio and in the pipeline. (highly preferred)
- Proven skills in communication and presentation skills simplifying complex topics. Demonstrated leadership with use of omnichannel tools and able to communicate via digital channels from remote (non-office based) environment. (required)
- Demonstrated success in project management & experience with mentoring and coaching MSLs. (required)
- Prior experience in clinical development and clinical research. The ability to critically evaluate clinical study protocols, reports and publications. (highly preferred)
- Experience with pharmacovigilance and regulatory authorities and its impact on the product portfolio. (highly preferred)
- Experienced with building strategic medical plans and successfully implementing medical initiatives. (highly preferred)
