Extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) has been identified as the leading bacterial cause of sepsis, causing approximately 10 million cases of invasive E. coli disease annually, worldwide. It is associated with increased hospitalizations, mortality and antimicrobial resistance resulting in significant healthcare and societal costs. The agreement with our partner, Johnson & Johnson, includes worldwide co-development, co-commercialization, and license for the current 9-valent vaccine candidate as well as lifecycle management candidates. Johnson & Johnson will manage R&D and Sanofi will manage commercialization and medical activities.

Main responsibilities:

In this role, you will lead key external engagements with global experts at the forefront of science and public health related to E. coli sepsis and extra-intestinal E. coli disease. In addition, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, conduct and reporting of non-interventional studies as described in the integrated evidence generation plan (IEGP), reporting to the Global Medical Franchise Head. You will (1) oversee studies contributing to an innovative research program to support this new asset, (2) Contribute to the strategic and targeted use and dissemination of medical evidence, (3) Participate in external scientific engagement, (4) Provide internal stakeholders with strategic scientific advice & medical evidence.

Scientific Leadership:

Serve as a scientific authority for Sanofi Medical in infectious diseases and vaccines, with specialized knowledge in E coli epidemiology and microbiology. Communicate internally on developments in the field and externally on progress with Sanofi's influenza and COVID development and delivery efforts.

Expert Network Building:

Cultivate and maintain relationships with international external experts

• Working with the Global Medical Brand Lead, organize scientific meetings with international experts (e.g., advisory boards, clinical research updates, advocacy boards).

• Leverage your network to drive relevant scientific and medical progress in line with the Sanofi vision.

Passion for Learning:

Educate senior internal executives and broader teams on relevant scientific and medical topics.

• Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

• Passionately connect with people both internally and externally.

Collaboration and Execution:

Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to execute projects effectively.

• Optimize working practices for the global medical community.

About you

Education:

MD or PhD with formal training in epidemiology or related discipline.

Experience:

Demonstrated track record in design, conduct and publication of epidemiologic studies, especially in the field of sepsis and/or gram-negative infections. 7-10 years in pharma, preferably in epidemiology, medical or research and development.

Skills:

Strategic thinking.

Network-building abilities.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Fluent in English (French fluency and other languages are advantageous).
