What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a motivated Solutions Architect to provide technical leadership in delivering strategic services that empower the scientific and engineering communities at Sandia. In this role, you will effectively identify and resolve complex technical issues, driving success across our initiatives.

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, making effective communication and teamwork essential for success. You will collaborate cross-organizationally, consistently delivering results while continuously learning new technologies, concepts, and processes. You will also understand technical and functional design requirements and work closely with users to define and develop overall system requirements.

Duties will include:

  • Consistently explores cutting-edge information technologies and shares insights with colleagues and relevant stakeholders across the organization.
  • You will design, architect and implement IT solutions for development, quality and production environments.
  • Identify and track system deficiencies, recommending and implementing effective resolutions.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring all services, platforms and any infrastructure comply with corporate and team standards as far as security, maintainability, scalability and performance.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies.
  • Actively pursue development opportunities beyond the required levels and mentor less experienced colleagues through both informal and formal channels.
  • Network successfully with a diverse technical population to solicit work to foster technical growth of the team.

This position is eligible for Hybrid work and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$109,300 - $217,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline plus five years of relevant experience; or a master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline plus two years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu)
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OpenStack)
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher)
  • Solid knowledge of networking concepts and protocols
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Solid foundational knowledge of all areas of IT infrastructure, networking, servers, storage, virtualization cloud services, container platforms.
  • Hardware architectural design, specifications, prototyping, procurement, integration and implementation for both new systems and for recapitalization of existing systems
  • Software architectural design
  • Configuration management and IT automation (GitLab, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Virtual environments (VMware, KVM)
  • Databases and data storage/retention
  • Storage systems (e.g., Network Attached Storage, Storage Area Networks, high-performance file systems, HA, Disaster Recovery, Object/S3)
  • Systems-level software testing
  • Fault investigation and anomaly resolution
  • Documentation and training
  • System security and information assurance
  • Technical certifications such as:
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer
  • Amazon Web Services Certifications (DevOps, DevSecOps)
  • VMWare
  • Experience with customer interactions, including researching requirements, conducting feasibility studies, advising for alternatives, analyzing cost and schedule implications, specifying technical system and subsystem solutions
  • Project management and system engineering experience and certifications
  • Experience working in a classified environment
  • Ability to function in a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skill

About Our Team:

Science & Engineering Computing-Environment Services Department, Org 9321, provides advanced capabilities and in-depth support for a broad range of scientific and engineering computing services which include: high performance computing, remote graphics workstations, high performance storage, scientific and engineering applications, web development, software engineering, and continuous integration (compilation and test) environments. The department designs, develops, manages, and provides cutting edge software and tools across multiple platforms used to create complex mission unique capabilities. The department develops and implements new and emergent technologies and capabilities in support of mission and programmatic needs. We partner with other organizations and teams across the Laboratories to deliver user environments, subject matter expert support, and application-level software and tools to support the scientific and engineering communities.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:
