What Your Job Will Be Like:

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an enthusiastic GEOINT mission systems engineer to join our collaborative team in supporting key systems to deliver GEOINT capabilities to both the DOD and ICs. As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects to develop and integrate solutions for key national security issues. Our ideal candidate will possess a strong background in conducting and supporting analysis of remote sensing systems data, algorithm development, electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor characterization, and modeling & simulation.

On a given day, you may be called on to:

• Meet mission requirements and conduct mission data analysis to quantify/qualify system capabilities for our DOD and IC partners.
• Communicate with mission stakeholders to understand key requirements and capabilities gaps of our current systems.
• Work with many elements of Sandia National Laboratories, federal agencies, and defense industry partners to deliver quality technical analyses and products.
• Collaborate with mission partners and operations personnel to address community needs and participate in R&D with cutting-edge advanced systems.
• Perform R&D activities for emerging mission areas, including algorithm design and analysis.
• Summarize and present results to other staff and sponsors; help develop papers and briefings for publication.
• Write proposals for internally or externally funded R&D projects.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 90% of the time.

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and relevant experience defined by the following parameters:
• An Associate's degree in a relevant discipline plus nine (9) years of directly related relevant work experience; or
• A High School Diploma plus thirteen (13) years of directly related relevant work experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q and SCI clearance which may require a polygraph test.
  
  *Equivalent education and experience must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D S&E, Systems Engineering candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

• Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
• Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance.
• Experience working with National Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) and Kansas City National Security Campus/New Mexico Operations (KCNSC/NMO).
• Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
  
  Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
• Familiarity with multi-phenomenology analysis and simulation of sensing instrument performance.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
• EO/IR remote sensing technologies.
• Mission systems engineering.
• Modeling and simulation.
• Flight system disciplines.
• Signal/image processing and analysis.
• Information/data science.
• Experience with the following:
• Systems engineering and requirements verification.
• Image and/or signal processing and analysis.
• Matlab, Python or C++ for support of analysis software.
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.
• Familiarity with multi-physics analysis/simulation of sensing instrument performance.
• Creative technical and analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong social skills including effective leadership teamwork and collaboration.

About Our Team:

The Systems Mission Engineering Center (6300) organization provides real-time remote sensing solutions in space, ground, and other domains for actionable intelligence against threats to the nation. The Mission Engineering and Geospatial Analytics System Program Office (MEGASPO) supports many DOD and IC customers to design and integrate key national systems that strengthen national security. The strategic objective of Mission Engineering & Geospatial Data Analytics Group (6340) is to enable and optimize use of disparate Geospatial data sources to provide actionable intelligence address threats to national security that are increasingly more complex. Group members develop new approaches and missions for current systems and expedite operationalizing new capabilities.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
