What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a self-motivated multidisciplinary aerospace engineer to join our advanced concepts team. The role requires expertise in aerodynamics, flight vehicle design/optimization, and GNC algorithms. Focused on modeling and simulation, the engineer will validate concepts using real-world data and may lead development test plans for live, virtual, and constructive evaluations. The position involves acting as a principal investigator and technical contributor, driving projects and proposals through collaboration with internal teams and external partners. The engineer will serve as the primary contact for projects, representing SNL through papers and presentations while leading and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the Laboratories.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams for which you may not be the domain expert including teams across Lab.
  • Conduct research and development of novel technologies, vehicles, and missions to support warfighter needs in missiles, air, and space domains for both strike and defense missions.
  • Drive concept development through pitching ideas and submitting proposals to project leaders and external sponsors.
  • Develop and maintain strong connections to funding and non-funding partners such as US Combatant Commands.
  • Develop and run vehicle optimization workflows to produce novel hypersonic flight vehicle designs including optimizing vehicle OMLs and system layouts.
  • Implement GNC algorithms for flight vehicles within engagement and mission level simulations in support of concept development.
  • Perform modeling and simulation of aerospace engagement and mission level models in multi-platform, multi-physics system-of-system simulation environments.
  • Support Lab hypersonics flight programs by embedding into larger, cross-functional teams.

Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelors + 5 years of experience in aeronautical or aerospace engineering or related field.
  • Experience in aerodynamics as well as guidance, navigation, and control.
  • Experience with running optimization workflows.
  • Knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's or PhD preferred
  • Eight or more years of work experience in aeronautical or aerospace engineering fields
  • Experience in aerodynamic design or analysis of hypersonic vehicles.
  • Experience with developing optimization workflow.
  • Experience using multi-physics engagement and mission level modeling and simulation tools.
  • Experience with development of modeling and simulation software or algorithms with programming languages such as Python and C++.
  • Active DOE Q or DoD TS Security Clearance.
  • Active SCI clearance.
  • Ability to model SNL core behaviors.
  • Strong skills in writing and presenting on proposals.
  • Ability to lead and participate on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Advance concept development by presenting ideas and submitting proposals to project leaders and external sponsors
