What Your Job Will Be Like:
Our expanding department is looking for motivated student interns to assist in the design, development, and application of new optimization and analysis tools. You will support a diverse range of internal and external customers by analyzing complex systems, processes, and scenarios for the Department of Defense and other U.S. government agencies. This role involves collaborating with your team at Sandia to meet customer's analytical needs and provide insights that enhance the customer's decision-making capabilities.
As an intern, you will have the chance to engage in research and development of new capabilities across various areas. This position presents both challenges and opportunities for personal and professional growth, allowing you to make a meaningful impact at a national level.

On any given day, you may be involved in:
- Learning about new problem domains
- Understanding and applying new simulation or optimization tools and techniques
- Collecting and organizing data
- Generating, analyzing, and presenting results
- Conducting research and development in simulation, optimization, and advanced decision analysis tools

Salary Range:
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintatin a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:
Ideally, your background will also include some of the following:
• Experience and passion around AI/ML/RL
• Research experience as evidenced by technical presentations and/or publications.
• Demonstrated ability to independently determine and develop innovative approaches and solutions to a diverse range of technical and analytical problems.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with discrete and multi-objective optimization methods.
• Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development methodologies, practices, and tools. Experience using TeamForge, SVN, or similar tools along with experience using formal software development methods will be helpful. Familiarity with Visual Studio, MATLAB, and Python will be an advantage.
• Experience analyzing complex systems, processes, and scenarios is an advantage.
• A self-motivated and proactive nature, especially in the absence of clearly defined requirements.
• Demonstrated interest and ability to become familiar with new tools and techniques and apply them in analyzing complex processes, systems, and scenarios.
• An active security clearance will be helpful.

The Advanced Decision Analytics Department (5493) designs, develops and applies unique modeling, simulation, optimization and analysis tools that combine the latest M&S technologies with advanced optimization and statistical techniques. The department primarily supports military and internal programs that involve system, system of systems (SoS), fleet, and enterprise decisions across the lifecycle from concept development through operations, sustainment, and modernization.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
