What Your Job Will Be Like:

Do you have real passion for communications and want to join an outstanding team? If so, Organization 00157-1, Creative Services Printing & Events, is currently seeking a Communications Technologist to join their team!

The selected applicant will install, modify, test, and service internal and in-house data communications network equipment and related systems, audiovisual systems, and video production systems. One will also assist in recommending improvements and developing technical standards for the team. Successful applicants will be able to serve customers efficiently and effectively under tight timelines, possess a positive attitude and clear communications skills, work independently with minimal supervision, and support a strong team environment.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Support the installation of local and remote data and voice communications equipment, such as terminals, modems, videoconferencing units, concentrators, minicomputers, facsimiles, and pagers
  • Ensure all hardware and software, including network control programs, satisfies communications needs
  • Prepare appropriate network documentation, including operational instructions
  • Liaise with outside vendors; order circuits and equipment, as required
  • Develop recommendations for the combined usage of data processing and telephone system hardware and software
  • Support learning systems and video production
  • Support asset management libraries for images, photos, and videos
  • Work with broadcast quality projection, presentation, and video production equipment, including multichannel audio mixers, audio equalizers, multimedia and multiscreen presentations, and various video recording and playback formats
  • Interact with customers for in-house communication events
  • Recommend purchasing hardware and software, and coordinate and perform installation

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$52,600 - $99,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • A High School diploma; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • 2 years related experience
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, and/or Macintosh computer platforms
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • An Associate's degree or a Bachelors' degree in Digital Media, Information Technology, or a relevant field
  • Experience with the following:
  • Working in a classified environment
  • A/V control systems
  • BrightSign hardware and BrightAuthor software
  • Designing and supporting various Audio/Visual (A/V) systems for special mission applications, including "live" outside events
  • Broadcast and A/V equipment repair and maintenance
  • Maintaining editing suites and online editing platforms
  • Knowledge of specific modems, test equipment, and terminal configurations
  • The ability to design, procure, install, troubleshoot, maintain, and operate a broad variety of hardware/software, administer accounts, storage backups, and recovery
  • Technically skilled at troubleshooting, installing, and integrating video and audio for live production and post-production
  • The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values

About Our Team:

Creative Services provides professional graphic design, animation, technical writing/editing, video production, audiovisual and off-site event production, digital display and mobile application design and printing services that contribute to the success of the Laboratories and its mission. The services provided include, but are not limited to, photography, publication design and layout, interactive multimedia presentations, exhibit design and planning, interior design, poster fabrication, graphic illustrations, and video production.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
