The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) Information Technology Infrastructure team is seeking a highly motivated, experienced networking Solutions Architect. The right person will have strong networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP), video conferencing and VoIP experience, and experience configuring and deploying a variety of networking equipment. You will be responsible for researching, designing, and implementing classified networking systems to enable Sandia's intelligence mission.

Our ideal candidate has experience collaborating with others for success, as well as excellent communication which includes communicating technical processes and details effectively with customers of varying technical backgrounds.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be a key part of the DOE enterprise network team providing architecture expertise for next generation design of our Upper Level LAN (ULL) networks.
  • Ensure that IT networks are secured and accredited.
  • Purchase, track, and maintain IT-related property.
  • Coach and mentor network engineers on Sandia's ULL network implementation.
  • Interfaces with the customer - internal or external to Sandia - to elicit and define information system requirements.
  • Researches, prototypes, architects, and designs solutions for effective operation of mission enabling or direct mission information systems.
  • Accountable to internal or external customers for overall technical performance of information systems.
  • Responsible for resolving issues that require architectural changes.
  • Designs, configures, and implements Zero Trust Network Architecture solutions.
  • Develops strategic solutions that reduce future life-cycle costs and position Sandia synergistically for future mission work.
  • Advances solution space by resolving complex, difficult, or unique information system issues using creative, effective, and possibly leading-edge solutions.
  • Provides architectural direction for information systems.
  • Create, maintain, and document processes and procedures.

Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite. (Relocation will be available to qualifying candidates).

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computing, Engineering, or Science discipline, plus five (5) years related experience supporting and maintaining advanced network systems; OR an Associates degree with nine (9) plus years of experience.
  • Experience with Cisco/Arista/Brocade routers and switches, and IP fabric architectures.
  • Experience with network protocols, including routing protocols (such as border gateway protocol, EIGRP, STP, and equal-cost multipath routing) and multimedia protocols (such as session initiation protocols and multicast).
  • Ability to design, plan, and implement local and wide-area network systems.
  • Experience implementing and utilizing network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds.
  • Position requires an active current Q level security clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI security clearance that may require a polygraph.

Qualifications We Desire:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

  • Current network certification(s) including, but not limited to: Security+, CCNA, CCNP, COMSEC, or equivalent certifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills across all levels of an organization.
  • Experience in creating and validating system security plans.
  • Experience implementing Zero Trust Network Architectures and Zero Touch Provisioning.
  • Experience with implementing and configuring zone-based firewalls.
  • The ability and willingness to learn additional operating systems and networking environments.
  • An active SCI-level clearance.

About Our Team:

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) performs high-impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community (IC). As part of the FIE Operations team, the Information Technology Infrastructure department enables the reliable and timely delivery of secure IT products and services to satisfy the unique requirements of the IC. Our IT products and services include servers, virtual environments, desktops, networking, storage, and applications.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
