What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking experienced software developers to join our team. We develop operational monitoring systems in support of the US and International nuclear monitoring and non-proliferation missions with particular focus on US Nuclear Detonation (NuDet) Detection System (USNDS) ground systems. From basic research and development to fully deployed operational data processing and analysis systems, our organization specializes in software feature development, machine learning, analytics, algorithm development and data analysis. We are currently developing the newest release of this system. Our system consists of millions of lines of code written primarily in C++, a Java front end, and peripheral Python scripts.
On any given day, the selected candidate can expect to:
- Contribute to a culture of high trust and high personal accountability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define and develop near and long-term features and deliverables.
- Participate in Agile and incremental development frameworks, ceremonies, and planning.
- Develop software using project specific development tool and environments.
- Follow project quality coding expectations and standards.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related relevant experience defined by the following parameters:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline; or
- A Master's and one (1) year of directly related relevant experience; or
- An Associate's degree plus nine (9) years of directly related relevant work experience; or
- A High School Diploma plus thirteen (13) years of directly related relevant work experience.
*Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field with extensive programming experience.
- Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI.
- Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in diverse teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following knowledge, skills, and experience: - Four or more years development experience in C++ (version 11 and higher) in an object-oriented environment.
- Minimum of three years' experience in Jira, Git, Gitlab, or CI/CD tool.
- Two or more years' experience the following:
- Python.
- Developing software on a Linux-based platform.
- Working with large code bases.
- Experience in:
- Development with CMake.
- Large data systems processing development.
- DoD or DOE satellite or ground station data process system.
- Leading technical teams to achieve minor and major software development deliverables on time, within scope and budget.
- Modernizing legacy production software systems
About Our Team:
The Space and Ground Analysis Systems (SAGAS) department specializes in research, development, and delivery of robust ground systems for remote sensing assets of national security importance. Our emphasis is on creating maintainable, high-quality software through proven Agile techniques. We believe in the value of teamwork and maintaining a cohesive, high performing team capable of implementing rapid solutions to novel problems.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
