NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:
$157,100 - $267,000
Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like:
The Protective Technologies Group is seeking a team-focused and innovative Manager to lead the Microsystems Assessments Department. Building on a foundation of exceptional staff and extensive capabilities for assessment of protective security measures, you will have program, line, and capability advancement responsibilities. The staff have specific expertise in microelectronics failure analysis, vulnerability assessment, and protective technologies.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Manage and oversee research and development programs that crosscut multiple National Security missions in partnership with R&D staff.
- Partner with support functions to ensure successful programmatic execution including financial management, business operations, field intelligence element, ES&H, and facilities.
- Lead dynamic capability teams focused on applied, cutting-edge microelectronics assessment R&D at the integrated circuit level.
- Advance the department's capabilities through mission-relevant R&D, in partnership with customers, using sponsor investment, LDRD, and other funding opportunities.
- Actively participate in the development of the strategic plan for the Counterfeit Detection Center, including regularly engaging internal and external stakeholders to communicate status and strategic direction.
- Work with the managers in the group to recruit staff and develop the expertise needed to advance the mission into the future.
- Collaborate across the Protective Technologies Group to enable programs that rely heavily on expertise and capabilities matrixed within the organization.
- Coordinate with other managers and program leads across the Cyber Threat Center and laboratories to maintain alignment between the team and organizations outside of your direct line authority.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Relocation will be provided for those that qualify.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant STEM field plus eight (8) or more years of experience
- or equivalent combination of education, engineering, and scientific experience to perform independent research and development. Note: Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Two (2) or more years management experience or four (4) years' program/project leadership experience.
- Active US DOE Q or DoD TS security clearance is require to start.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI security clearance, which may require a polygraph test.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD SAP accesses.
Qualifications We Desire:
Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:
- Master's and/or PhD in a related STEM field.
- Experience with laboratory operations management including environmental, safety, and health work planning and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage R&D projects.
- Experience with SPP and SIPP processes and related NNSA requirements.
- Experience working with US Government sponsors to understand priorities, develop innovative technical proposals, and acquire funding.
- Experience and success in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, developing, and leading professional staff.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work with sensitive information and classified matter while applying need to know principles in a high security environment.
- Experience in multiple techniques for microelectronics failure analysis.
- Passion and vision for integrating across the laboratory and linking between the S&T community and National Security missions.
- Experience with the LDRD process including idea development, advocating for support, securing funding, project management/execution, and engagement in the review and selection committee process.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, consensus building, conflict resolution, and time management skills.
- Current or prior DoD SAP accesses.
- Active SCI security clearance.

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
