What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated computer scientist to join our multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-impact national security systems. The ideal candidate will serve as both an engineer and architect, focusing on the design and implementation of complex systems, hyper-converged infrastructure, security architectures, and software architectures. This role involves developing innovative solutions to complex challenges, utilizing creativity, analytical skills, and out-of-the-box thinking to address some of our nation's most critical security needs. Initially, the successful candidate will concentrate on the development of the 7th generation United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System (USNDS).

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Research and prototype solutions based on requirements, fit, and feasibility.
• Architect solutions and systems to fulfill operational and development needs.
• Develop and integrate solutions as part of a larger operational ground system and development environment to support national security missions.
• Fostering innovative ideas and creative problem-solving.
• Troubleshoot architect tier tickets across various environments.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent combination of education and directly related relevant experience defined by the following parameters:
• Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline; or
• An Associate's degree plus four (4) years of directly related relevant work experience; or
• A High School Diploma plus eight (8) years of directly related relevant work experience.
• Active DOE Q-level or DOD TS security clearance.

*Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.

Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D Computer Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

• Graduate degree in computer engineering, computer science or a highly related field with extensive programming experience.
• Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in diverse teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

• Minimum of one (1) or more years' experience with Linux.
• Experience with the following:
• Systems design and modern DevOps practices and tools.
• Automation programing languages (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, and Chef).
• Least one programming languages: Python and Bash Scripting.

About Our Team:

The "Next Generation Systems Software Simulation and Analysis" department performs research and development to advance flexible, extensible, and robust software applications for remote sensing system-level simulation as well as simulation-based analysis for test and verification all of which helps to transform data to knowledge enabling our customers to take action with confidence.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
