This position is located in either the San Francisco or Bellevue offices.

Salesforce is seeking a Release Quality Principal who will play a critical role in ensuring that only the highest-quality software is released to customers. This role requires deep technical expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and a strong quality-first mindset to drive engineering teams towards excellence. As a Quality Architect, you will have the authority to halt releases that fail to meet quality standards and push back on development teams to ensure only robust, scalable, and secure solutions are shipped.

This role demands outstanding communication, influencing skills, and business acumen. You will work closely with engineering leaders, software architects, and product managers to define and enforce quality gates, maintain test health, and drive overall product excellence. Broad scope to help improve the release deployment process, with a focus on quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create quality review processes (to be decided) discuss and expand this
  • Enforce and uplift Release quality processes, review CI system to ensure the release management team track/alert and integrate all fixes that are in branches that need to be included to remediate bugs, build a system that will alert on possible missing bugs
  • Enforce Release Quality Standards: Review, assess, and, when necessary, halt releases that do not meet defined quality criteria.
  • Drive Quality Accountability: Work with development teams to improve code quality, testability, and automation to prevent defects before they reach production.
  • Define and Maintain Quality Gates: Work with teams to establish strict entry and exit criteria for releases, ensuring comprehensive test coverage and risk mitigation.
  • Help teams design and implement advanced testing strategies, including automated UI/API/integration tests to ensure system stability.
  • Monitor Quality Health Metrics: Track test coverage, defect rates, performance benchmarks, and other quality KPIs across all releases.
  • Proactively Identify Quality Risks: Assess software changes for potential quality risks and drive remediation strategies.
  • Partner with software architects, engineering leaders, and QE teams to champion quality best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Advocate for the Customer: Ensure releases align with customer expectations for quality,safety, reliability, usability, and security.
  • Coach and Mentor Teams: Provide technical leadership to engineers, QA, and automation teams, elevating the quality culture across the organization.
  • Investigate Production Issues: Triage, debug, and drive the resolution of critical production defects, ensuring rapid fixes and long-term prevention.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software development, quality engineering, or test automation experience
  • Proven track record of halting subpar releases and enforcing quality-first standards
  • Expertise in test automation frameworks for UI, API, and performance testing
  • Deep knowledge of software architecture, scalability, fault tolerance, and maintainability
  • Mastery of multiple programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Experience defining and implementing quality governance processes
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills with the ability to push back on development teams when necessary
  • Familiarity with Agile development (Scrum, Kanban) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to drive long-term quality strategies that span multiple complex projects
  • Experience with public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • A related technical degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in highly regulated environments (e.g., finance, healthcare, government)
  • Prior experience leading enterprise-wide quality initiatives
  • Strong public speaking skills for delivering technical presentations at conferences or industry events
  • Experience working on large-scale SaaS platforms

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $211,500 to $306,600.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $230,800 to $334,600.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
