POSITION OBJECTIVE
This person will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents on all aspects of golf course maintenance. They will be trained on the operation of powered equipment related to mowing and cultural practices, fertilizer and pesticide calibration/application, and water management. They will also contribute in daily crew scheduling and supervision learning all the tools needed to become an Assistant and eventually a Golf Course Superintendent. The Assistant in Training will be responsible for managing 9 holes of the Copperhead golf course and assisting in the planning and preparation for the Valspar championship.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Programming and scheduling irrigation
- Troubleshooting and making irrigation repairs
- Golf course setup
- Mowing greens, tees, approaches, collars, fairways, roughs, etc.
- Spot watering greens, tees, and fairways
- Assisting in pesticide and fertilizer applications.
- Developing daily work schedules and an introduction to developing and executing an Agronomic Program
- Preparing for and effectively running meetings.
- Multi-tasking and coordination of projects.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Applicants should possess an Associate, Bachelor, or Certificate in Turf Management or previous golf course experience.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
- Requires good communication skills verbal and written.
- May be required to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form to deal with problems.
- Have experience and understanding of golf course maintenance routines and set up
- Experience with operations of mowing equipment as pertains to golf course maintenance
- May be required to operate equipment for maintenance set up dependent upon resort and golf maintenance schedules or demands.
- Moderate mechanical abilities
- Basic electrical knowledge
Position requires flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and overtime (when needed).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Most work tasks are performed outdoors.
- Position requires walking; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. On a regular and continuing basis.
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment, communicate with others, effectively deal with customers and accept constructive criticism from supervisors.
- Must be able to change activity frequently and cope with interruptions.
