Position Description

Job Summary

The Maintenance Manager position requires strong leadership skills, and ability to interact with all departmental functions within the plant, including but not limited to, safety training, repair of equipment, predictive maintenance planning, and preventative maintenance of existing machines. The incumbent must exercise discretion when making decisions, and use independent judgment within policy and procedure guidelines. Requires use of Six Sigma analytical tools to assist in problem resolution relative to production needs, and thorough understanding of plant processes. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and oversees the plant Maintenance, Tooling, and Facilities Maintenance departments.

Execute plant equipment reliability plan

  • Manage preventative and reactive maintenance to optimize production efficiency while minimizing maintenance costs, planning, scheduling, & budgeting maintenance activities
  • Maintain communication with Plant Manager to assure production requirements are understood
  • Provide input and collaboration as part of the Plant Management Team
  • Prepare and submit internal and external reports according to local and department requirements including capital appropriations, maintenance spending, and capital spending reports
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of industrial maintenance processes
  • Assess current maintenance work processes to optimize efficiency
  • Use data analysis to anticipate and prevent future problems
  • Create and implement measures to minimize breakdowns and reactive repairs through continuous improvement
  • Ensure all rules with SAP are followed and inventory management of parts and tools are maintained
  • Ensure maintenance work schedule is accurate and maintained
  • Track Maintenance Department metrics including those for shift maintenance employees and correct deviations from target goals
  • Interface with World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Reliability Pillar on plant improvement efforts
  • Achieve annual plant uptime goals and correct any variances
  • Oversee the cleaning, inspection and maintenance of extrusion dies and adapters. Ensure that all dies are in excellent condition necessary to support production operation
  • Ensure that all calibration tooling is clean, complete, and ready for use and that all calibration tooling is in good working condition in order to support the production operations
  • Ensure all calibration equipment is stored properly and ready for use. Coordinate the repair and maintenance as needed
  • Develop and perform maintenance strategies for the facility to meet performance, safety and reliability expectations
  • Develop facilities maintenance training plans around defined equipment tasks
  • Develop critical spares lists and recommended stocking levels for equipment and facility
  • Oversea repairs to HVAC, Fire System and other equipment as needed

Employee development and department standards

  • Complete all employee performance evaluations and implement corrective actions as required
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones with all department employees
  • Conduct daily shift huddles
  • Work with the HR Manager to correct any behavioral or performance issues, and other employee issues in an accurate and timely manner
  • Draft and execute Individual Development Plans (IDP) in accordance with business needs and employee development goals
  • Network with Maintenance staff from other SPG sites to benchmark best practices that may be applicable to the Claremont facility
  • Continually develop, train and motivate direct reports to ensure an effective team that continuously works to upgrade skills and competencies

Required Qualifications

Education -

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or similar discipline preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial maintenance experience in a variety of roles

Special knowledge

  • The ideal candidate must 1) have a clear understanding of plant maintenance management and its components and 2) demonstrate good:
    • Understanding of maintenance and purchasing operations
    • Quantitative, analytical, and computer skills, including:
    • Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
    • Experience with software (SAP)
    • Coaching and staff development skills
    • Written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and with teams
    • Interpersonal skills
    • Team leadership skills
    • Active listening skills
