This position is designed to accomplish the goals of the organization by the judicious application of knowledge and experience in project planning, selection, purchase, installation, operation & maintenance, modifications & modernization of equipment & systems, to improve the working environment, protect physical facilities, and increase productivity.

The position requires technical skills and knowledge of the process as well as strong capabilities in areas of planning, scheduling, organizing, follow-up, and cost control. The incumbent works with the supervisor to set priorities and objectives within the framework of overall department programs. Progress and results as well as unique technical innovations are required. The position represents a fully seasoned professional with a thorough knowledge of engineering principles and theories and their application.

The incumbent pursues projects, which are complex in nature and require unique and innovative solutions. They usually involve interaction with other disciplines or may require a high level of specialized expertise. The projects are often of a critical nature to the business.

  • Develop project objectives, scope, and priorities, by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management. Capex ranges up to $3M.
  • Develop new or modify existing equipment, machines, or processes to improve product quality, and service reliability, reduce costs, or increase capacity.
  • Perform calculations and cost estimates of mechanical systems.
  • Plan mechanical project work through team coordination meetings and scheduling.
  • Completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements.
  • Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements, assigning personnel to phases and elements, and reviewing bids from contractors.
  • Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements.
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, use of resources, resolving problems, and reporting as required to management.
  • Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan, scheduling changes, and recommending actions.
  • Controls project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts, including up-to-date invoice processing, receiving, submitting, and filing.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations. Manages and guides contractors, consultants, and suppliers (up to 30 persons at the time).
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Handles multiple projects.
  • Provides technical direction to less experienced professionals.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5 - 7 years of engineering experience, manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Capital Projects management experience required.
  • CAD knowledge required.
  • Ability to project design and management for processes and machines.
  • Proven ability in problem analysis and resolution.
  • Strong time management, and analytical skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Must have good "interpersonal skills" to work effectively with personnel throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Six Sigma experience and working knowledge is a plus.
