What's the Job?
This role is responsible for proper development of category strategy and coordination of all activities related to the procurement of CAPEX for CertainTeed as well North American Region (C) & HPS and Life Sciences. This role will work within a highly matrix organization, dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders (Operations and Engineering Senior management per Business) to identify solutions that support operational requirements while reducing Total Cost of Ownership. The Director will also play a critical role in identifying sourcing and developing categories strategies in low-cost country (LCC) regions such as Asia, Eastern Europe and Mexico.

The director will represent the use of the best practices regarding CAPEX Purchasing, act as a guide and support site Buyers with CAPEX projects to promote the use of Competitive bidding, Low-Cost Country Sourcing and Synergies across the sites.
Development of Category strategies for Contractor services across US and CA will be the critical responsibility of the Director. This will include:
- Civil construction
- Mechanical contractors, electrical contractor, and general contractors
- Construction Managers
- HVAC, third party engineering & project management
Geographical Coverage: This role is meant to support all the 200 +locations across the US, Canada and Mexico.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
This role will interact with:
- Engineers on a daily basis to change the mindset and open to spend for competitive bidding and LCC sourcing.
- Business leaders, VP of Operations, Engineering Central and Local Teams, Sites Buyers, IPOs and Corporate Paris.
- Executives to provide project updates.
- Finance to optimize Cash Flow spend in line with the Corporate strategy
- Publish tracker and report to all NA BUs on a monthly basis
- The Director will review and approve the full Capital Budget, Contract Terms, compliance approval, NDAs,
- The CAPEX sub categories represent a blend of process equipment, non-process equipment, civil construction, and engineering services, typical of industries such as mining, petrochemical or plastic processing.
- Responsible for defining the category strategy within the Capital projects, dividing Capital project into individual purchases, create the best approach, and implement Purchasing Best Practices.
- Lead LCC strategy and initiatives with all the Business in Coordination with the IPOs (International Purchasing Offices) in Mexico, India, China and Bulgaria
- Tasked with managing CAPEX Project Buyers across CertainTeed and HPS BU's outlined above, to ensure best in class support to the plants on all major spend or strategic CAPEX projects.
- Manage, improve and, lead cost savings for the business. As well as represent purchasing on large projects, act as the main point of contact to the site buyers regarding compliance to SG Capex methodology, and ensure purchasing rules and regulations are being adhered to
- Measure and maintain supplier performance for price, delivery, and quality via the strategic negotiation of the capital contracts. Understand the proper use of protective measures on a contract, Liquidated damages, Letters of Credit, Surety bonds, warranty etc. Train and educate site buyers to be compliant with the capex process
- Responsible for impacting the carbon footprint of this category by driving the transition to Green (low emission equipment and or sustainable construction) methods depending on the project needs
Required Qualifications
What do you bring?
- Bachelors Degree in Bachelor's Degree in either Engineering, Supply Chain, or Finance, Business; Master's Degree Preferred
- 10-15 years experience in Strategic Sourcing, and Capex Category Management experience
- Proven managerial experience, sourcing of suppliers and developing category strategies.
- Strong comprehension of industrial manufacturing process across industries.
- Ability to read engineering and manufacturing drawings
- Strong comprehension of legal contracts, Capital Equipment and Services (Labor)
- Proficiency in SAP
- Advanced proficiency in MS OFFICE (EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT).
- Domestic and International travel +50%, to Saint Gobain sites, vendor locations and trade shows
- Spanish and or French fluency preferred
