What's the Job

The purpose of this position is to provide effective financial analysis to support the Insulation US Division management make effective decisions as well as ensure the accuracy/relevance of reported figures, budgeting, and accounting oversight. Analysis and reporting to be provided to CertainTeed Insulation US Group Controller and various levels of management.

Budget, Business Plan, and Forecasting: Lead the development of financial analysis for Insulation US throughout the budgeting, planning and forecasting phases of the fiscal year. Lead the annual preparation of the budget and support the coordination at the plant level and develop simplified standardized templates for all of the plants. Work with business managers, department heads, production planning, and the plant controllers to ensure that all budgeting requirements are disseminated, understood, integrated consistently and completed as required. Look for continuous efficiency improvement in the current budget models and analysis to improve accuracy, flow and streamline of the process. Analyze budget/create and review business ad hoc analytics for reasonableness and proactively propose changes to improve financial performance. Reconcile projections vs. actual results and prior projections and ensure the reasonableness of monthly forecasting. Complete the final budget packages for SIF reporting and support in the preparation of the budget presentation. Consolidate and validate pricing, sales volume, manufacturing costs, manufacturing variances and to prepare monthly/quarterly forecast.

Business Decision Analysis: Perform ad hoc financial analyses and make recommendations to support strategic decision making. This involves working closely with managers in all functional areas to assess the financial viability of various business considerations. Provide guidance and support to engineering and manufacturing managers who are working on capital projects, as well as subsequently conducting post audits of key investments. Develop financial / operational reports and models which provide meaningful business data to management. Closely collaborate with sales team with commercial strategy and decisions. Support marketing with new product analysis.

Financial Reporting and Analysis: Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of financial statements, inventory, and standard costs. The position must ensure for each accounting period, that all elements of the P&L and Balance Sheet are accurate and complete and that all reserve requirements have been reviewed. Journal entries must be prepared each month and must be accurate to ensure the quality of the reporting. Coordinate with the plants and SSC to ensure an efficient month end close process. For each accounting period analysis must be performed on key variations to understand the drivers and the accuracy of the variations and keep a larger focus on the monthly trend evolution. Clearly summarize the key drivers of the variations to help the Insulation Management understand the accounting period results and changes. Ensure that all required reports by CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain are completed timely and accurate. Streamline reporting process for plants and central reporting to avoid duplicative work, inconsistent numbers, etc., and make reports useful, relevant, and intelligible for the end user. Ensure consistent application of accounting principles across plants and standardize tools and analysis as much as possible. Support WCM reporting and analysis and operations specific requests. Develop policies for the Insulation financial community to ensure the consistency of standards and application. Support the internal and external audit processes as needed. Supervision, and career development of analysts that will support in the above responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. MBA degree in Finance or CPA/CMA is a plus.
  • Minimum of eight to ten years of related business experience including:
    • Solid understanding of accounting principles and adherence to business controls
    • Budgeting and forecasting in billion $ manufacturing environment
    • Operational analysis and understanding of manufacturing performance, standard cost variances and results
    • Business process enhancements for continuous improvement
    • Development of financial models to evaluate commercial opportunities and support strategic decision making
  • Superior data management and modeling skills required. Experienced user of Microsoft Windows software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). SAP and G/L Wands, QlikView and other BI Tools, and financial consolidation systems experience preferred.
  • Prior direct or indirect management experience, especially with remote plant teams, is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, demonstrating a mature and organized approach to the workload
  • This position requires someone who exercises strong judgment and is able to work independently, while also establishing and leveraging relationships with management and peers. It requires an individual who will seek opportunities to formulate innovative, conceptual solutions to financial and profitability issues in order to support management.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) are required as this person will be frequently interacting with the CertainTeed Insulation management committee and their staffs.
  • The ability to quickly and accurately assess a business situation, arrive at decisions in a timely manner and understand the ramifications of decisions is critical to this job.
  • Creativity is also an important trait which this individual must possess, as they will be expected to assist in the re-engineering of processes that improve efficiencies in light of the organizational changes and the ongoing need to improve the quality of management information and depth of analysis.
  • This person will also require the ability to formally and informally manage central and remote plant teams and to prioritize resources against competing demands.
