The Manager, Utility-scale Development BESS role at RWE Clean Energy is responsible for originating, developing, and acquiring utility-scale PV, onshore wind, and standalone BESS projects in the U.S. The East team focuses on ISO-New England, NYISO, PJM, the Carolinas, and TVA. RWE is one of the top five BESS developers/operators/owners worldwide. The BESS Development Manager will play a key role in delivering BESS projects that align with RWE's strategy in North America.
Responsibilities:
- Develop BESS origination strategies in the East Region in coordination with the Business Development team that result in differentiated projects with high barriers to entry
- Liaise closely with the Land Acquisition team to secure site control agreements
- Support the Vice President, Utility-Scale Development, East in crafting and executing a regional BESS strategy
- Assess acquisition opportunities through in-depth diligence
- Oversee various permitting and environmental studies and manage outside consultants to meet project budget and schedule
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including federal, state and local officials, fire departments, project landowners, and surrounding community members
- Facilitate the engagement of internal transmission, procurement, project execution, legal, accounting, and finance teams
- Develop control and influence over the costs, terms, and schedules of key project milestones

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 8 years of experience, 5 years in the renewable energy sector with at least 2-3 years in BESS development
- Strong knowledge in key areas, including Energy markets, prospecting, real estate development, familiarity with key markets with emphasis on NYISO and PJM
- Knowledge of BESS technologies and industry trends
- Proficient in data analysis tolls and software (eg. Excel, GIS)
- Basic understanding of regulatory frameworks and permitting processes
- Strong interest in renewable energy and sustainability.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and international skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $117,000 - $171,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
