The Senior Associate, Retail Energy Services is responsible for developing and designing energy efficient mechanical systems associated with new buildings and renovations for consulting design, design build and performance contract projects. Designs will be produced for HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems utilizing current versions of REVIT software. The Engineer will use industry standard software such as Carrier HAP, Microsoft Excel and various manufacturers' selection software programs in the development of mechanical designs and energy calculations. Associated responsibilities include but are not limited to design and drafting, specification writing, cost estimating, field investigations and construction site visits.

The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the development of energy audits and performance contracts by assisting Energy Engineers and Project Managers with developing design concepts for energy conservation measures by identifying, assessing, and structuring technical and financial solutions to meet customer objectives. The Engineer will identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with HVAC, EMS, building envelope, and heating and cooling systems. Responsibilities include performing utility analysis and benchmarking, site investigations, performing energy savings calculations, researching incentives, rebates, and other funing opportunities associated with specific energy conservation measures. Assisting in the design of HVAC, EMS and Central Plant system retrofits, developing cost estimates and written descriptions of energy conservation measures in support of technical audits and ESPC proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the engineering staff to screen and qualify the feasibility of energy efficiency and capital improvement opportunities. This will involve attending selected customer meetings, conducting site trips to collect facility and utility data; and developing and running energy screening models to determine the technical and economic viability of energy efficiency and capital improvement projects. Screening models include bin analyses, hourly building simulation computer models, and commercially-available analysis packages
  • Field work associated with documenting existing as-built conditions during the development/design phase and inspecting contractor's work during the construction phase
  • Direct junior staff in the assistance of producing mechanical designs and drawings by providing guidance and training on mechanical system design, construction document preparation and the use of various software programs
  • Assist in the production of bid and construction documents (drawings and specifications) for HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems. Drawings will be produced with current versions of AutoCAD. Calculations will be produced with various industry standard software programs such as Carrier HAP, Elite Fire, Microsoft Excel, etc. Specifications will be produced using Microsoft Word to edit Master Specs as required for individual clients

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required, PE registration is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in HVAC,EMS and central plant design required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in energy simulation software required (ASHRAE modified BIN, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, eQuest, etc.)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in plumbing and/or fire protection system design preferred
  • Familiarity with design-build and/or performance contracting preferred
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Engineering, analytical and technical writing skills, including word processing and spreadsheet analyses
  • Building energy use modeling and simulation experience required (e.g. eQUEST, HAP, DOE2, Trane Trace, ASHRAE Modified Bin Analysis)
  • Design experience with HVAC and other building systems
  • Good knowledge of local and national building codes and standards to include; International Building Codes, NFPA Codes, USGBC LEED standards and ASHRAE 90.1
  • REVIT proficiency preferred
  • Selection of appropriate mechanical system components and designs to meet customer financial and infrastructure improvement needs
  • Selection of the most appropriate cost-estimating and project implementation methods to meet customer financial and infrastructure improvement needs
  • Selection and application of HVAC and mechanical system equipment

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $98,800 - $148,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
