RWE Clean Energy is looking for a strong candidate to join our BESS Optimization team as an BESS Technology Optimization Engineer! The BESS Technology Optimization Engineer will be responsible for managing the technical aspects of the design, installation, commissioning, and testing of energy storage systems in our Milwaukee, WI test lab and applying the learnings to BESS project development and deployment. This role will also be a key contributor to the goals of the BESS Optimization team.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical lead for the project design, setup, and testing of energy storage equipment
  • Design and install electrical test equipment
  • Develop product test plans
  • Develop test software to conduct product testing
  • Work with lab personnel to ensure test plans are execute accurately and on schedule
  • Manage equipment vendors to ensure that the equipment is delivered and commissioned per contract
  • Manage the commissioning process of test equipment, which includes, but is not limited to, bi-directional inverters, Li ion batteries, energy management system, transformers, metering, and communication equipment
  • Create test reports that interpret the test result for management
  • Coordinate internally with multiple engineering disciplines to review and comment on test plans and test results to develop next steps
  • Participate in regularly scheduled project meetings
  • Work on project/product improvements to increase project quality and reliability
  • Participate in vendor selection and product road mapping

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university required
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in electrical engineering
  • Minimum 1 year experience with battery storage technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Experience reading electrical schematics and blueprints
  • Experience working with AC single phase and three phase circuits up to 690VAC
  • Experience with high voltage DC circuits up to 1500VDC
  • Experience with NFPA 70E electrical standards
  • Experience with NFPA fire safety standards
  • Experience with utility scale construction is preferred
  • Experience with bi-directional inverters is preferred
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus TCP/IP and DNP3 is preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred
  • Experience with NI Labview is preferred
  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
