The Engineer I is responsible for supporting the engineering development and design of electrical, power, lighting, fire alarm and lightning protection system construction documents associated with new buildings and renovations for consulting design projects, design-build projects, and performance contract projects. With supervision, the Engineer will work under the direction of the Manager/Engineer from project conception through construction completion. Associated responsibilities include but are not limited to engineering design and drafting activities, specification writing support, cost estimating, limited field investigations and construction site visits, support of electrical load calculations and SKM modeling, lighting calculations, and coordination with others. Duties also include performing site visits, construction site visits and coordination with other disciplines such as mechanical and plumbing.

The Engineer I will contribute to the development of energy audit reports by assisting with calculations and combining write-ups, cost estimates and calculations (produced by others) into a standard audit report template.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the design of electrical, power, lighting, fire alarm and lightning protection systems for new and renovated building construction that will be constructed by the Owner's contractors (traditional engineering consulting services)
- Assist in the design of electrical, power, lighting, fire alarm and lightning protection systems for building retrofit construction on design-build projects that will be constructed for the Owner
- Support the studies and analyses of electrical systems documenting the conditions, presenting cost effective solutions, and generating reports with recommendations
- Conduct code research in support of project development. Research and apply current technology and stay abreast of new and upcoming technologies
- Assist in the preparation of project specifications along with supporting information
- Perform/attend job site visits to verify and document existing construction conditions and to observe and document the contractor's work
- Assist with the engineering criteria and selection of equipment
- Assist with select engineering calculations for equipment and systems sizing. Perform load, photometric, voltage drop, short circuit, and harmonic calculations using computer modeling programs such as SKM, AGI and Excel
- Assist with the energy audit walk-throughs of facilities to document existing conditions and identify retrofit opportunities for energy conservation
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering required
- EIT/PE license a plus. Advancement is based on having a Professional Engineer license
- Engineer I requires 0 years of specific experience but must demonstrate related experience and the aptitude to quickly learn the requirements of the position
- Minimum 2 years experience with Power and Lighting System design and drafting is preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Fire Alarm and Lightning Protection design and drafting is desirable
- Able to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with building electrical systems
- Good leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Engineering, analytical and technical writing skills with attention to detail
- Able to plan and manage the development of construction documents with limited direction from senior staff
- Basic understanding of NEC and building codes
- AutoCAD experience and working knowledge of REVIT required. Ability to setup and manage drawings, references, blocks, etc
- Must have good analytical and computer skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
- Good organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Able to travel (up to 30% of time with multiple overnight trips) to project sites when necessary
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $75,800 - $113,700. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations.
