Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Safety Engineer to support its Avionics organization and contribute to the development of safety critical aerospace systems. In this role, you will support safety assessments, collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, and assist in ensuring compliance with industry safety standards such as ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E. This position provides an excellent opportunity to grow your expertise in system safety, reliability engineering, and safety analysis methodologies while working on innovative aviation and defense program.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.
This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.
What YOU will do:
- Assist in performing civil safety assessment in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, including but not limited to:
- System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs)
- Functional Hazard Assessment (FHAs)
- Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSAs)
- System Safety Assessments (SSAs)
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs)
- Common Mode Analyses (CMAs)
- Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining and verifying system safety requirements.
- Participate in the review of design and development documentation for safety-critical equipment.
- Conduct and document safety analyses under the guidance of senior safety engineers.
- Support peer review of safety assessments and analysis.
- Develop expertise in assigned areas related to system safety processes and methodologies.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to support safety objectives and program goals.

Qualifications you must have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Exposure to aircraft or electronic systems
- Basic understanding of reliability engineering principles
- Familiarity with ARP4754A, /do-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297
- Experience or coursework in Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) tools like CAFTA or similar.
