What You Will Do:
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join us on the Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team based in Marlborough and Tewksbury, MA. The candidate selected for this role will take on responsibility for System Safety Engineering Lead for the SPY6 portfolio of programs.
As a Principal System Safety Engineer / SPY6 System Safety Lead, your responsibilities will include:
- Primary program and customer point of contact for all system safety engineering tasking on the SPY6 portfolio of programs.
- Development and delivery of all safety related contract deliverables (CDRL's).
- Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.
- Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
- Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
- Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds.
- Collaborating with SPY6 Software Safety Lead to ensure comprehensive inclusion of digital product safety and hazard contributions in system level safety products
- Coordinating with Program Leadership and Cost Account Managers to execute the safety programs in accordance with scope and budget provided by each contract
- Work closely with RTX and customer representatives to support engineering activities at test sites.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
- Working with a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including:
- Monitoring program technical execution,
- Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
- Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
- Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process, including for example: SSWGs, SSSTRP, Tech Assists, and Mission Readiness Assessments
- Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
- Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
- Partnering with the SPY6 Software Safety Lead to ensure comprehensive execution of safety program in accordance with applicable SOWs and Standards
- Collaboration and mentoring of junior safety engineers.
This position is posted as ONSITE and can be based at either Raytheon's Marlborough, MA or Tewksbury, MA locations.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically Requires: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
- Experience with System Safety Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systems
- Experience with DoD System Safety Programs and MIL-STD 882E
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills along with solid interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
- Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
- Experience mentoring safety engineers
- Master's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
