Summary :

The Staff Tech, Manual Machinist will work in the mechanical fabrication shop, executing a variety of mechanical fabrication efforts at an exceptional quality level, while collaborating in a dynamic, fast-paced, integrated team environment. The position interacts daily with fellow support technicians and engineers, to successfully meet the prototype and test manufacturing needs of our internal and external engineering customers.

Job Description:

What You Will Do

  • Machinist will be involved in most phases of projects from design to the delivery of the components to our internal customers.
  • Use precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, band saw, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Produce parts and assemble prototypes and components.
  • Determine machining methods and processes for producing new components.
  • As required, perform inspections on all prototype parts and assemblies to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Work with engineers and other technical staff to develop, troubleshoot, and modify prototypes.
  • Select and use the appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for the prototype projects.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the process.
  • Analyze blueprints and CAD models to plan the machining process.
  • Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and other machining requirements based on design specifications.
  • Monitor machine operations, adjust settings, and make necessary repairs to ensure optimal performance.
  • Follow all safety and operational guidelines when operating machinery and using tools.
  • Manage calibration of inspection tools and equipment
  • Learn and utilize solid modeling of mechanical designs in CREO

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing, machining and assembly.
  • Experience with blueprints, sketches, and/or CAD/CAM files.
  • Experience using precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers etc..)
  • Experience with calibration of tools and equipment
  • Ability to lift 28 pounds and ability to recognize lifting related risks/hazards and develop solutions/methods in order to perform lifts safely
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions related to occupational hazards, procedures, and practices of the trade.
  • Familiar with CNC programming
  • Familiar with all other supporting machine shop tools and measuring instruments including bandsaws, table saw, drill press, grinders, pneumatic tools, and routers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times
  • Experience working on projects demanding fast prototype/production startups and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Experience with solid modeling and documenting mechanical designs in CREO or similar modeling tools.
  • Active security clearance
