The Principal Engineer role involves providing engineering support of highly technical and advanced manufacturing processes, with specialized qualifications, knowledge and skill. This position will provide Surface Mount Technology expertise for electronics assembly to Collins Aerospace Avionics Operations. Principal Engineers complete projects while offering innovative, efficient, and quality solutions.

What You Will Do:

  • Acts as SMT subject matter expert for Avionics Operations with wide versatility of experience and capability.
  • Perform project planning and manage project resources, including multiple individuals and disciplines, to achieve quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Create SMT standard work for processes and equipment.
  • Defines/recommends design changes to new products, designs of experiments, and equipment necessary to assure product quality.
  • Plans and performs engineering testing and uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve critical engineering and production problems.
  • Provides technical consultation to management and leads technical project teams.
  • Evaluates and implements innovations and technological advances that improve quality, reduce flowtime, improve productivity, and enhance operational surety.
  • Assesses capacity and analyses throughput.
  • Understands and knows how to operate the following: Pick and place, AOI, Selective Soldering, Reflow Oven, PCB wash, and paste Stencil machine.
  • Monitors and analyzes electrical testing of products and troubleshoots test failures.
  • Investigate and launch new technological advances in support of manufacturing processes. Develops/Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables and services. Troubleshoots and solves problems with processes or equipment already in operation.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time
  • Ability to work remote or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
  • In depth knowledge of the complete SMT manufacturing process
  • Able to be the subject matter expert on all SMT processes within Avionics

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
