The Air Traffic Systems (ATS) Software (SW) Engineering Department has an opportunity for a talented Software Engineer Intern to join a team of 100+ Software Engineers that are supporting a variety of ATS programs, such as the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS), NexGen Weather Processor (NWP), EnRoute Automation Modernization (ERAM), AutoTrac II and AutoTrac III Product lines in India, Hong Kong, Australia and Norway. The ATS programs are safety-of-life Air Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) developed for the FAA for civil aviation and other commercial ATCS international agencies. The focus of the Software Engineer Intern position is to be an active team member to support: the design, development, integration and testing operational software components during software integration, system integration, and test/verification phases of the software lifecycle to support functionality within defined ATCS Programs.

What You Will Do:
- Performing/Supporting the software team to design, develop, and test operational and non-operational software updates for the various program software releases.
- Develop software in a hyper-collaborative engineering environment involving interacting with multiple domain engineers with the common team goal of satisfying customer operational requirements.
- Updating SW process documentation and work instructions needed to meet Collins software standards and processes.
- Working with the software team and leadership to support cost and schedule objectives.
- Monitoring work budgets, performance.
What You Will Learn:
- How to develop, unit test, and deliver your software to the internal integration and test team for ultimate deployment to operational Air Traffic Control Centers for use by Air Traffic Controllers.
- How to adhere to advanced software development methodologies and processes such as peer reviews, unit test coverage, development processes to add new/fix software into a large software baseline.
- How to use new Agile/Scrum processes and tools such as sprint planning, story pointing, daily stand-ups, post-sprint retrospectives, Git, Jira, Linux, Bit-bucket, and other tools.
- How to collaborate within a multi-disciplined scrum team working on a common goal to adhere to the sprint schedule and sprint feature content.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. citizenship is absolutely required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under these programs/contracts.
Qualifications We Value:
- Requires active enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters' degree program from an accredited college or university, with a major STEM technical degree program in the area of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, Physics or other related STEM field and will not have graduated before the end of the internship unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. A current cumulative GPA of 3.0+ is strongly desired.
- An updated college transcript of your program is required and should be submitted with your application.
- Prior Agile/scrum experience and/or familiarity with agile processes and procedures
- Knowledge of agile, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and automated testing concepts with Test Driven Development (TDD) concepts
- Experience with commercial or open-source test automation tools, environments, and frameworks such as Gherkin/Cucumber, Selenium, Eggplant, CUnit/Junit, Parasoft C++test, Jenkins, Grafana dashboards, kickstart
- Familiar with Networking Protocols SNMP, TDP/IP and other protocols
- Knowledge of Unix, Red Hat Linux, Python, SQL, bash/ksh scripting and command line usage
- Flexibility and desire in learning new COTS, tools, processes, or methodologies
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, including formal presentations
- College-level course work and experience in Software Engineering to include experience working various phases of the software development lifecycle. C/C++ Programming language with structured programming experience in a Unix/Linux based development environment and command line usage. Other program language experience, such as: Java, Python, or Javascript.
- Experience utilizing Microsoft products and tools.
- Experience in SW testing and debugging source code; experience with ClearCase/ClearQuest, Jira, and Bit-Bucket configuration management tools.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment that requires multi-level communication with other engineering, program, and external stakeholders.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
