Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to support its Avionics organization and contribute to the development of safety critical aerospace systems. In this role, you will be responsible for performing safety assessments, collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, and assist in ensuring compliance with industry safety standards such as ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882E. You will also mentor junior engineers, review safety analyses, and contribute to the development of system safety processes. This position offers an excellent opportunity to drive innovation, influence safety designs, and play a key role in delivering safe and reliable aviation and defense solutions.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What YOU will do:

  • Perform civil safety assessment in accordance with ARP4761 or military assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, including but not limited to:
    • System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs)
    • Functional Hazard Assessment (FHAs)
    • Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSAs)
    • System Safety Assessments (SSAs)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs)
    • Common Mode Analyses (CMAs)
  • Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity.
  • Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment.
  • Review analysis of peer safety engineers.
  • Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology, etc.)
  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Knowledge of aircraft or electronic systems.
  • Basic knowledge in reliability engineering theory.
  • Working knowledge of ARP4761 OR Mil-Std 882E
  • Basic knowledge of ARP4754A, DO- 254, DO-178B/C, DO-297.
  • Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools.
