The Sensors Line of Business portfolio in the Physical Sciences and Systems group within BBN seeks a well-qualified technical Program Manager to support our advanced research and development projects and pursuits in our Cambridge, MA office. Our team Focuses on research, development, and prototyping, as well as demonstrating and operationally deploying new-concept sensor technologies across a wide range of application areas. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, the ability to efficiently handle complex program management issues, and an aptitude for helping researchers focus on the technical work to be achieved within a high-intensity environment.

What you will do

  • Drive cutting edge technical work and innovative research through program execution, new pursuits, and technology transition
  • Be the main point-of-contact for administrative issues on multiple research and development (R&D) programs, for both internal and external participants
  • Coordinate activities, needs, risks, issues, and deliverables with stakeholders internal and external to the company
  • Proactively communicate, manage, and mitigate technical and programmatic risks. Lead the creation and implementation of strategies to reduce technical and programmatic risk in program execution
  • Manage the program team when executing program tasking, responding to customer needs, and meeting contractual responsibilities
  • Report to internal and external management on program status, progress, successes, and problems
  • Be responsible for monitoring spending, staffing, contract schedule, subcontracts, material purchases, and deliverables, as well as all internal supporting staff
  • Lead business development and capture efforts, from initial customer interactions to tailored opportunities, through marketing and sales efforts focused on specific targets, to execution of RFI/whitepaper/abstract, as well as full proposal, submissions
  • Ensure that the team stays on task and on budget while meeting all customer needs and submitting all program deliverables
  • Work with a motivated, engaged, and exciting group of peers
  • Position may require some amount of overnight travel

Qualifications You Must Have

  • BS degree with minimum of 12 years of experience, or an advanced degree and minimum of 10 years in Engineering, Math or Physics
  • 10 years of project management / program management experience
  • US citizenship required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Interest in and understanding of sensor physics and technologies, and related signal processing approaches and hardware/software implementations
  • Strong experience as a people leader, organizer, and motivator
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in creating and delivering technical documents and presentations using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to senior management, partner organizations, and sponsors
  • Demonstrated success with task planning, staffing, and tracking of multiple projects with multiple personnel simultaneously

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience in design, development, manufacture and testing of prototype systems in the laboratory or in the field
  • Experience with software development and integration with novel hardware
  • Experience in managing Government-funded contracts, including classified contracts
  • Experience writing proposals to secure funding for executing technical programs for various branches/offices on the US Government.
  • Experience with managing subcontractors, vendors, and consultants
  • Experience managing technical teams of scientists and engineers working on R&D projects
  • Experience managing multiple, simultaneous multi-million-dollar programs and delivering successful results on time and on budget
  • Experience with acoustic, fiber optic, or geophysical sensing
  • Experience with imaging systems

Work Location

  • Onsite or Hybrid: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. Employees working in Hybrid roles are expected onsite three days a week.

The salary range for this role is 137,000 USD - 275,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
