Pratt & Whitney's Mechanical Systems Team within the Compression Systems Engineering department is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the design team to bring the Mechanical Systems module components through the design and analysis process and turn CAD models into an assembled bearing compartment module.
What you will do:
- Partner with the Bearing Compartment Design Lead, Designers, and Design Techs to produce concepts and designs of new hardware to produce high-quality components for release to manufacture and test.
- Develop technically sound solutions to design challenges that help your team meet program schedule milestones, design for manufacturability, and weight and cost goals.
- Present your design and engineering work to the internal stakeholders and achieve agreement on the design configuration at Sprint Demos.
- Utilize engineering standard work and RTX CORE tools to develop new processes that improve the Mechanical Systems design methods.
- Operate within an Agile framework, support the Sprint/Increment cadence, and participate in the continuous improvement of our methodologies.
- Travel up to 25%.
What You Will Learn:
- Understand technical processes and design requirements of Mechanical Systems hardware and how it interacts with the local system.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, specifically within module center discipline interactions.
- Leverage design experience working with assembly and validation engineers, and instrumentation engineers to ensure successful engine build.
- Application of solid modeling and analysis tools.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 5 years of relevant engineering experience; or an Advanced degree and 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Active U.S. government-issued security clearance.
- 3D CAD solid modeling (NX) and PLM software (Teamcenter) experience.
- Prior Mechanical Systems hardware design experience, and an understanding of how the Mechanical System disciplines develop and analyze module hardware, across part design, workflow, and engine development phases.
- GD&T experience.

Department/Segment Overview: Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) is responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of all low-pressure and high-pressure fans and compressors for both commercial and military engine models. CSE also identifies and matures new technologies for these products. The technical disciplines within CSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, and Product Definition.

- Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.
The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
