What You Will Do:

This Columbus Forge Disks Senior Manager, Quality - Non-Destructive Testing plays a highly visible, key leadership role in ensuring the successful execution of the Technical NDT Sonic, Etch & FPI function for Columbus Forged Disks. This is a leadership position on the CFD Quality Operations team and offers an exciting opportunity to grow professionally and broaden capabilities, while proudly leading the CFD Quality NDT L3 team.

This position will:

  • Lead the team of 9 CFD NDT L3 Inspectors and driving their training and proficiency development including:

    • all L3's to L3 Certification
    • all Certified L3's to become authorized to final approve Technique Sheets and work instructions
    • ensuring training, testing, practical examination and certification of L1 and L2 inspectors
  • Lead the Sonic NDT L3 team in the timely quality compliant execution of day-to-day prioritized tasks in support of the production operations team and delivery goals an ensure:

    • daily accurate and timely disposition of inspection findings/processing of F3887s
    • fully compliant technique sheets are available to production for inspections required to support the production schedule
    • timely disposition of machining conformance issues that impact sonic inspection and drive optimization of acceptance criteria
    • timely over-inspection of adjacent parts when needed for heat clearance
    • technical support of clinic investigations as required
  • Provide leadership for the NDT technical function for CFD for Sonic, Etch, and FPI within CFD including:

    • engaging with Lead NDT L3 to ensure provision of technical and procedural guidance for the NDT methods
    • ensuring provision of clear consistent and accurate documentation to the L3 and L2 team members
    • maintaining and improve compliance to Quality and NDT procedure, method and tech sheet requirements
    • improving process efficiency utilizing Core Events, standard work, RACI and digital tool development and lead implementation of continuous performance improvement
    • ensuring technical support for internal audits, timely re-cert activities to support team certifications
    • ensuring only conforming product passes through sonic inspection, etch and fpi and technical resources are applied to support NDT equipment compliance to production requirements, including tank approvals, POD's and calibrations and working with maintenance to solve equipment issues
  • Provide technical resources to ensure development and introduction of new technology as it transitions into production (ASIS)
  • Collaborate effectively with the QPE homeroom for NDT as well as the rest of the CFD Operations team
  • Communicate with leadership on status and risks to production and program schedules.
  • Ensure recruitment and retention of a fully staffed team while driving a culture of Safety and Quality in a production environment

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant NDT/Sonic/Inspection experience required; OR High School Diploma with 14 years of NDT/Sonic/Inspection experience
  • NDT/Sonic quality operations experience
  • Knowledge of NDT Methods, especially ultrasonic in an Operations environment
  • Demonstrated experience using Core/Lean tools for improving manufacturing processes
  • Solumina and SAP Proficiency along with Microsoft Office suite
  • Understanding of inspection requirements and procedures for Disks
  • Demonstrated experience working compliantly to Quality Procedures
  • US citizenship is required, as only US citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience as an L2 or L3 Sonic NDT inspector
  • Direct leadership/supervisor experience of operations personnel with a proven track record of results
  • Experience that includes a background in writing and establishing NDT and general quality systems operating procedures and standard work
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers where needed including communications regarding clinic investigations or escapes
  • Understanding of inspection impacts on capacity, cycles times, productivity and OEE

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
