Engineering Product Integrity has an opening for a System Safety and Reliability Engineer to work on the next generation of Pratt & Whitney military aircraft engines. This engineering position will conduct efforts to analyze the system design and establish requirements that drive safety and reliability into the design to ensure the safety of P&W products is world class.

As a member of a systems team, you will work collaboratively with the best and brightest designers and engineers the industry has to offer. Together you will analyze the system design and establish requirements that drive safety and reliability into the design to ensure the safety of P&W products is world class. Our team is responsible for evaluating the engine design from a system engineering approach and requires a big picture perspective on the design process from beginning to end.

What You Will Do:

  • Contribute to reliability and safety design requirements based on derivation of the customer specification, creating reliability, maintainability/human factors, and safety design assessment artifacts in accordance with engineering standard work.
  • Collaborate with engineers throughout the organization and evaluate systems interactions across the entire propulsion system.
  • Support integration activities and reviews with internal and external customers to include air system contractors and certification authorities.
  • Support P&W Integrated Product Teams, Chief Engineer, Airframe manufacturers, Suppliers, and Customers in reviewing, assessing, and influencing engine designs to optimize safety-related metrics and assure safety certification requirements (Mil-Hdbk-516C and Mil-Std-882) are met.
  • Drive reliability and safety in subsystem IPT, CIPT and SIPT integration activities, and reviews with internal and external customers and air system contractors.

What you will learn:

  • You will be offered the opportunity to develop your reliability skills during weekly training sessions on topics such as fundamental reliability and probability theory, system reliability, and reliability growth curves.
  • Internal classes are also available from both a desktop (self-paced) and instructor led environment on topics to include but not limited to gas turbine operations, design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), and flight safety part process.
  • These learning opportunities will arm you with the necessary skillset to excel in your role.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
  • 8+ years of experience in Engineering or 5+ years with an advance degree.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position will require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience delivering presentations at all leadership levels.
  • Experience with military aircraft and or engine engineering processes.
  • Experience using or developing reliability tools and processes such as Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) or Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience in Microsoft Office tools (specifically Excel) and electronic databases to perform quantitative reliability and safety analysis.
  • Experience in Model Based System Engineering methodology. Familiarity with Cameo Systems Modeler.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.

This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help shore up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
