Pratt & Whitney's Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) structures team is looking for an experienced Principal Structures Engineer to lead structural analyses on Externals hardware on military engine programs.
What You Will Do:
- Lead structural analysis relentless root cause analyses (RRCA) teams including directing analysis work, assigning, and closing action items, mentoring team members, presenting results to engineering leadership and external customers; and performing structural analysis on Externals or similar hardware using a combination of hand calculations, PW tools, and finite element analysis.
- Lead outsourced vendors in performing analyses consistent with internal guidelines and customer specifications.
- Offer mentorship and guidance to early-career engineers, focusing on enhancing their proficiency in Electromagnetic Susceptibility and Emission (ESW).
- Improve and generate internal guidelines and training.
- Conduct and support testing activities, including creating test plans, selecting instrumentation and test limits, assisting in rig design and loading mechanisms, performing structural analysis of test hardware, evaluating test data, and presenting results to leadership and customers.
- Travel: less than 10%.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 8 years prior relevant engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Perform structural analysis on externals or similar hardware using a combination of hand calculations, PW tools, and finite element analysis experience.
- Experience utilizing ANSYS classic and/or Workbench.
- Siemens NX Advanced Simulation expertise.
- Led structural analysis relentless root cause analyses (RRCA) teams including directing analysis work, assigning, and closing action items, mentoring team members, and presenting results to engineering leadership; and Led outsourced vendors in performing ESW analyses.
- Improve ESW and the creation of Pratt & Whitney training experience.

Department/Segment Overview: Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles Engineering is responsible for the design, development and in-service support of power transmission systems, bearing compartment and rotor support design and analysis, oil and thermal management systems, engine externals packaging, and architecture, as well as nacelles for commercial and military engine models.
Technical disciplines include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, System Modeling, Mechanical Design analysis for bearings gears, and seals, and fluid-thermal modeling of associated components and systems.

- Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.
The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
