We are:

The Power Electronics Systems team at Raytheon Technologies Research Center invites individuals with power electronics, power electromagnetics, high voltage, and high-power electric systems expertise with strong hardware prototyping skills to apply for an open position. We are seeking a Principal Research Engineer to join our cohesive team of engineers and technicians who are focused on developing innovative technologies and solving tough problems for aerospace and defense applications.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams in areas such as electrified propulsion systems, power conversion for Radio Frequency (RF) systems, electric power distribution, electrical systems controls, motors and drives, high power defense systems.
  • Demonstrate innovation in the delivery of advanced technology through creative analysis and problem solving; to possess the ability to identify new research topics and their challenges.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary team members to address those gaps; work with our business units to create new opportunities for collaboration, to communicate research results effectively through both verbal and written means; and to participate in the creation of research proposals to RTX business units and government agencies.
  • Work in power electronics, relevant controls, electromagnetic for electrical machines, hardware design and prototyping.
  • Application of analytical skills to the development of new technology.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Ph.D. candidates with 5 years of work experience will be considered. M.S. candidates must have 10+ years of experience in power electronics or in a relevant work environment.
  • The candidate should have an M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electronics engineering, or closely related engineering field, while a Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in high performance power electronic converter and electrical systems for ground, air or water applications.
  • Experience in radio Frequency power systems, DC/DC converters, point of load converters.
  • Experience in power electronics, relevant controls, electromagnetic for electrical machines, hardware design and prototyping.
  • Experience in high power electrical systems and subcomponents, power distribution, controls, electric machines and drives. Understanding of hardware in the loop simulations.
  • Experience with electric and hybrid electric propulsion systems, batteries, electrical generators, system integration and control.
  • Record of technical contributions including patents and publications.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
