We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Optical Engineer to join our manufacturing engineering team to support Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) product lines within an Operations and Lean Manufacturing environment. Additionally, this person will be involved with design analyses and changes to both the optical testing equipment and the products themselves during productionization efforts. You will work with a cross functional team including M&P engineering, Production test engineering, Metrology engineering, factory and program authority to resolve issues on hands and mitigate potential future producibility concerns.

This is a technical lead role who aims to lead by example, the engineer will need to generate manufacturing processes that can be streamlined and executed with minimal interruptions, this expectation resides with both assembly manufacturing and testing capabilities. You must be self-motivated and requires to work with a cross functional team including engineering from other disciplines, factory management, program management, operation assemblers and test technicians.
Work will often be performed in an ISO8 to ISO5 cleanroom environment where most of the EO/IR production efforts occur.
This is an onsite first shift and standard workdays will be Monday through Friday, flexible work schedule of 9/80 can also be arranged.
What you will do:
- New Product integration, ensure product producibility and ensure process repeatability
- May provide input or guidance to junior-level professionals with tasks and assignments
- Oversee day to day prioritization of optical testing and test equipment needs, including daily communication with cross functional leadership.
- Engage with supplier(s) for test equipment development and optical material quality issues.
- Investigate failure trends for root cause and incorporate corrective actions.
Qualifications you must have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years of prior relevant optics experience
- Experience in handling optical components and equipment
- Experience with hands-on optical alignment in Visible, SWIR, MWIR and/or LWIR with interferometry
- Work history streamlining generations of assembly instructions and testing procedures.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications we prefer:
- Experience in team leading and team building
- In-depth hands-on knowledge with optical interferometry testing instrument include calibration, maintenance and minor repairs
- Familiar with Design of Experiment (DOE) troubleshooting techniques as well as theoretical analyses
- Experience with optical supplier engagement.
- Experience in new product integration
- Experience with testing on optical components such as windows, prisms and corner cubes
- Strong Optical and Mechanical properties acumen, demonstrated experiences with MIL-STD, ASTM, and other
- Familiar with collimators, IR spectrometer, targets and power meters.
- Experience in computer-aided design tool, i.e. Creo, Autocad, solidworks, etc...
- Familiar with optical analysis tool, i.e. Trace-Pro, CodeV, etc...

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
