Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Materials & Processes Engineer who will coordinate with site operations and engineering to manage compliance to ASG Collins Global Chemical Substances Program Office (GCSO). In addition, you will manage and implement the development of alternative materials for REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of chemicals) Program compliance.

What You Will Do

  • Support and collaborate with the Collins Global Chemical Substances Program Office (GCSO) to achieve regulatory compliance objectives. This includes risk assessment of Aerostructures materials, processes and products against existing Collins policies and procedures.
  • Engage with various site Operation and Engineering teams to ensure compliance of chemical substances to regulatory requirements or objectives.
  • Lead engineering development, qualification and certification of new composite and metallic materials & processes. This includes, but is not limited to, Green (REACh) compliant alternate materials (such as metal pretreatments, bond & paint primers, and paint/top coats) for new & legacy program applications. This includes all aspects of the management of the material development project such as test plan, fabrication of test articles, testing, problem solving, data analysis, specification creation, reporting of status and final results (TRL/MRL 2-6), as well as the project management of such activities (e.g. creating/ maintaining schedule, % completion of tasks, on-time delivery, and budget).
  • Interact between Engineering groups, manufacturing, supply chain, test labs, team members, suppliers and customers to ensure on-time and quality execution of project tasks and deliverables.
  • Reduce/analyze data and writing final test reports and specifications
  • Support production and MRO operations with materials and processes implementation (TRL/MRL 7-9)
  • Communicate and present data to senior level leadership
  • Travel up to 5% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62
  • Experience with aerospace composite & metallic materials and processes including paints, primers, metal pretreatments for priming and bonding, structural adhesives, thermoset and thermoplastic composites, testing and manufacturing methods and/or procedures.
  • Experience with material & test specifications for aerospace industry.
  • Experience with engineering drawings & design tools modeling software
  • Experience with a Project Management software program
  • Experience with Excel
  • Project Management experience

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with CATIA V5 or equivalent software
  • Experience with MS Project (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Excel-Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPS, HLOOKUPS etc.
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent
  • Statistical data analysis experience
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE
  • PMP certified

The salary range for this role is 105,000 USD - 221,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
