What Will You Do:

We are looking for uniquely talented engineers to champion our key transformation shifts and identify new ways to advance Structural engineering. Pratt & Whitney's Hot Section Engineering (HSE) team is growing, and we are seeking experienced, creative, and motivated Structures engineer to analyze and design the next generation of static or rotating jet engine hardware.

  • The Structures engineer will utilize state of the art analytical methods to validate the structural integrity of Hot Section static hardware (combustors, cases, frames, and vanes), or rotating hardware (disks and blades).
  • The engineer will be part of an integrated product team with responsibilities for executing FEMs, performing lifing analyses, and writing technical reports.
  • Communicating technical progress and status to various program groups, senior management, as well as internal / external customers.
  • The candidate will also be a member of the broader HSE community and support strategic development and growth of Structures discipline health.
  • Ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • BS Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
  • 8+ years of engineering or aerospace experience, or 5+ years with an advance degree.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

Qualifications You We Prefer:

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and trending skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with ANSYS APDL and / or Workbench.
  • Experience working to static or rotating structures standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of LCF, TMF, HCF & FM failure modes.
  • Familiarity with P&W Structures tools and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership in engineering continuous improvement.
  • Diverse Structures experience including analytical methods (FEA), hand calculations, and spreadsheet methods.
  • Experience analyzing strength, stress, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)-Department Overview

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

What Is My Role Type: In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We've introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:

Onsite:Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.

This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help shore up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
