The NPI Operations Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating the upfront involvement of Operations resources during product development programs to improve product quality, reduce assembly/test cost, and effectively transition a new product into production. Participation in new business capture teams, development of transition plans and proposals, guidance to cost estimating, determining and implementing Operations producibility requirements, integration of Operations critical milestones into the program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), baseline establishment following contract award, and transition process responsibility including matrix management of Operations functions are required.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the Operations organization and functional processes, Life-cycle Value Stream/Program Management, and business systems that support product development and new product transition (i.e. SAP/MRP, Project Systems, PDM, MS Project). The ability to effectively lead high performance teams, consistent with Collins Aerospace corporate and Operations Core Values, will be key to the success of this individual. Experience with the practical application of Lean/Six Sigma or APQP principles, manufacturing processes, and team leadership experience is desired. This is an Individual Contributor Role.

The NPI Operations Project Engineer may be called upon to perform NPI Manufacturing Engineering duties for programs as required depending on available resources and project plans.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as primary liaison between Operations functions, the LCVSM, and Engineering for assigned programs from pursuit through transition to production.
  • Capture team involvement including proposal development, oral presentations, and financial planning required.
  • Lead the pre-production team through the necessary activities to plan, build and transition a new product to the full-rate manufacturing environment.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate an accurate and achievable pre- production plan.
  • Review and/or approve cost estimates for program estimate at complete (EAC) projections and new business bids and pursuits.
  • Responsible for timely status reporting of Operations performance, risks, and opportunities to the Life-Cycle Value Stream Leader and Operations management.
  • Familiar with the various aspects of the engineering design, product development, Design to Cost (DTC), Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), and product prototyping processes.
  • Ensure Operations considerations such as producibility, testability, DTC, component obsolescence, and other factors are considered early in the design development process.
  • Lead or support cross-functional trade studies that drive increased customer value and company profitability.
  • Accountable for the quality of new designs relative to compatibility to the intended manufacturing processes.
  • Support activities involving variability reduction to identify and mitigate process and product risk (DFMEA, PFMEA, etc.).
  • Ensure the development of the Test Equipment for programs is incorporated in a timely manner to maintain program schedule commitments.
  • Support the development of operations program risk management plans and proactively manages risk within the Operations span of control.
  • Ensure quality, cost, schedule, and inventory goals are achieved in a manner consistent with the overall business plan.
  • Strategic, visionary thinker with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive leadership skills for interfacing with both internal and external customers.

  • Design and develop manufacturing processes for products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing.
  • Develop procedures for the economical mass production in cooperation with pilot-plant and production departments.
  • Make recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials
  • Influence others regarding policies, practices and procedures

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience leading cross functional teams and knowledge and experience with all aspects of manufacturing from component level build through to top level build.
  • Experience working on new product developments either from an operations position, engineering position, or LCVSM position, working knowledge of factory systems such as demand planning, Quality Management Systems, configuration control, etc, and experience managing a project/program using Microsoft Projects or a similar tool.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
