This position as a Mechanical Engineer Intern is with the Space Systems department of Collins Aerospace. Responsibilities include mechanical engineer working with hardware for human space flight programs. Daily works consists of engineering associated with the design, structural analysis, assembly build, and hardware testing support.

Additionally, this position will have opportunities to support work on thermal control and environmental life support components and assemblies for various aerospace applications, both crewed and uncrewed. This includes both NASA and commercial partners ranging from the International Space Station (ISS) to various satellite platforms, and other programs supporting the new lunar mission, Artemis.

What You Will Do:

  • Support engineering activities associated with the analysis, design, and structural testing of thermal control and environmental life support components and assemblies for various aerospace applications.
  • Deliver against the cost, schedule, and technical requirements of space programs. Deliverables include ensuring execution of Peer and Design reviews, analyses, Validation activities, Verification activities, design documentation (drawings, reports), task cost and schedule performance.
  • Interested in learning /building mechanical design engineering core-competencies such as stress and fatigue analysis, machine design, and material selection.

What You Will Learn:

  • Gain knowledge in research, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems in areas including, but not limited to, mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
  • Learn about applied research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
  • Learn test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess operating condition effects. Produce parts, designs, or sketches for machines, components, systems or work orders / purchase requests

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Following a task to completion and the flexibly to take on all needed tasks. Showing the intellectual curiosity to investigate all aspects of a problem and see it through to a positive solution.
  • Knowledgeable in basic 3-D CAD modeling fundamentals and the associated FEA Simulation software. The ability to learn and develop those skills over the coming years.
  • Ability to work within a matrix organization to achieve team and program goals.
  • Clear communication of complicated technical information.
  • Experiences with basic engineering analysis, tolerance studies, stress calculations and manufacturing support.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. Must be a commutable distance to Windsor Locks, CT to work an onsite schedule. This position may be eligible for relocation.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
