Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.

The Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics, and analytics. This includes Usage Based Lifing (UBL) for P&W engines and components and deploying state of the art development tools & methodologies. Together, these technologies inform and enable Condition Based Maintenance / Inspection (CBM/CBI), yielding operational improvements and increased safety.

The F135 PHM Sensors and Analytics Intern role for the F135 Program will be responsible for supporting the effective execution of PHM/CBM system. The role with familiarize the candidate the development lifecycle of a typical engine sensor suite, including defining the subsystem requirements for hardware and software, advancing a variety of technologies for gas path diagnostics, fault detection and isolation through Machine Learning (ML) and Big Data Analytics. PHM Sensing Systems cover the Propulsion System and interface with aircraft software for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) fleet management.

What You Will Do

  • Gain an understanding of advanced sensing software and hardware
  • Support field event investigations in response to program needs
  • Develop On-Board and Off-board Algorithms for Condition Based Maintenance
  • Evaluate Artificial Intelligent/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Fault Detection, Isolation and Removal
  • Support generation of health management performance metrics.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or related field
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • U.S. Person or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Data analysis experience.
  • Preferred Majors include: Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with advanced data science and AI/ML techniques
  • Experience collaborating with a cross-discipline team to develop innovative ideas
  • Experience communicating clear and effective messages to a broad audience

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
