The Fire Detection & Suppression group is looking for a developing Mechanical Engineering professional to join our team in Raleigh & Wilson, NC! You will participate in the development, modification, integration, qualification, certification and field support of aircraft and ground vehicle fire/overheat detection and extinguishing/suppression for military and commercial applications. Our devices include pneumatic, eutectic and thermistor linear overheat and fire detectors, pressure vessels, flow metering, and pyrotechnic cartridge actuators. You will work with existing and new application designs and product improvement, defining design drawings, testing, evaluation and data packages. Work may also include R&D for new technologies to maintain the company's position as a leader in the industry. Your ability to work in multi-discipline teams with effective communication and attention to detail for timely project execution is imperative. Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January-August 2025 (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity.
What You Will Do:
- Contributor working under supervision of senior engineers to generate new designs, review internal and external change requests, create redline revisions, and support test and documentation of mechanical hardware and assemblies.
- Participate in hardware engineering requirements interpretation and implementation into design for medium complexity components of mechanical designs.
- Engage in various segments of the product design life cycle including development, qualification, certification and aftermarket support.
- Work closely with other engineering and operations disciplines (e.g., systems engineering, drafting, test engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, logistics, etc.) to ensure that mechanical design and testing is appropriate for the project/product design approach and manufacturability.
- Participate in and contribute to new design and revision reviews in support to producing high quality drawings and documents.
- Learn and utilize the appropriate processes and tools during development of hardware.
- Support in new technology development for fire/overheat linear detectors and fire extinguishing/suppression agents and components.
- The work associated with this position will be performed onsite in Wilson, NC.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications We Prefer:
- 2 years of completed progress preferred toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Effective and efficient communication in various settings: in-person, virtual, email and direct messaging.
- General knowledge of metal fabrication, finishing, and machined parts.
- Adaptability and organization to support multiple projects simultaneously.
- Detail oriented and receptive.
- Self-motivated and able to complete assignments on time.
- Proficient utilizing MS Office Applications / Office 365

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
