Job Description :

The Hardware Engineering Center is seeking a highly motivated High Energy Laser Engineering (HEL) Technical Fellow with deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience to support new product development at Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS). The ideal candidate's duties will include:

  • Provide innovative solutions consistent with business development plans
  • Partner with HEL leadership to grow new business
  • Provide technical leadership to teams of engineers including leading design, build, integration, and testing
  • Identify strategic HEL development opportunities
  • Interface with program leadership and participate in customer and program technical reviews
  • Be accountable to leadership for technical decisions
  • Provide inputs and reviews of the engineering technical baseline as part of proposal efforts
  • Communicate and collaborate with Program Management and Technical Leadership, Engineering Leadership, Manufacturing, Suppliers, and Customer

A Technical Fellow is expected to work across Product Lines and Business Areas to support the critical needs of the Enterprise. A Fellow is also expected to establish mentoring relationships to develop the needed expertise and to enable a teaching culture at RIS. In this position, they must leverage a proven track record in developing architecture that leads to a successful product throughout the product's life cycle. The candidate of choice will encompass a history of design innovation validated by patents and technical papers, and have served as the technical lead through integration and qualification of HEL systems, as well as successfully leading Failure Investigation Teams in resolution to complex development and production issues and /or system anomalies.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 14 years of professional experience with a BS degree, 12 years of professional experience with an MS degree, and 10 years professional experience with a PhD
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) high energy lasers, (2) fiber laser systems, (3) and/or laser system design
  • Demonstrated ability to (1) to plan/schedule tasks (2) define optical/hardware components, (3) interface with vendors (4) set up and align optical/laser hardware (5) document/report test results, and (6) deliver laser systems
  • Experience with laser characterization techniques for beam quality, wavefront-error, and laser noise measurements
  • Broad understanding of optical and laser vendor capabilities
  • Experience giving technical presentations to management and customers.
  • US Citizenship is required as this position will require a DoD Secret clearance within 1st year of employment

Desired Skills
  • Experience with producing patents and publications in the laser industry
  • Experience Leading engineering teams across the life cycle of the laser product including development, build, test, and integration in to weapon systems
  • Ablility to influence others to achieve technical and programmatic goals
  • Demonstrated proactive problem solving
  • Knowledge to develop a business strategic vision and execute changes
  • Ability to write technical proposal volumes
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace
  • Proficiency in electronics, such as laser diode drivers, TEC, power supplies
  • Proficiency with optical alignment techniques and alignment tooling.
  • Experience with optical component inspection, cleaning and bonding
  • Strong Interpersonal and Multi-tasking Skills
  • Familiarity with processes and principals of systems engineering
  • Active Secret or higher clearance

Required Education and Experience
  • BS in Engineering, Physics, or other related engineering field
  • Prefer to have at least a Master's Degree, and possibly a PhD

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
