The Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering (ASE) organization is seeking a Design engineer to join our onsite Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT) at the Columbus Engine Center (CEC) supporting the maturation of the Next Generation Product Family (NGPF) fleet. In this role you will play a crucial part in supporting Geared Turbofan (GTF) Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO), where you'll be directly involved in providing engineering solutions to address non-conforming hardware, ensuring parts are returned to service and minimizing engine work scope increases.

This role will also allow you to serve as an onsite extension of the cognizant CIPT(s) as well as effectively act as an engineering liaison, representing Pratt & Whitney Engineering to the local Disassembly, Assembly, and Test (DAT) network shops.

What You Will Learn

  • This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with engine run hardware and the assembly and disassembly processes.
  • You'll gain valuable insights into engine functionality and business operations, providing you with an unparalleled opportunity to learn and grow as an engineer, while providing a direct engineering link to the commercial aftermarket organization.

What You Will Do

  • Interface with Engine Centers in Columbus, GA, Atlanta, Ga, and West Palm Beach, FL to better understand non-conformance and receive required characterization.
  • Investigate OEM and aftermarket engineering data such as engineering drawings, MRO manuals, and field history to understand original design with intent of creating technical data used to return non-conforming hardware back to service.
  • Apply mechanical design principles to complete tolerance stack-ups, balance calculations, bearing area, thread shear capability, and others.
  • Establish validation substantiation requirements for technical dialog or engineering authorizations
  • Obtain internal technical approvals from structures, CIPT design, materials, or Aero. Additionally secure FAA regulatory approval and coordinate with the end user.
  • Continuously develop or improve design processes and Engineering Standard Work
  • Interface with engine center staff, project engineering, and program management to secure priorities and understand programmatic issues.
  • Cultivate relationships with shop floor inspectors, powerplant engineers, and production engineers to improve customer experience.
  • Support Engineering organizations as an On-Site representative for the various CIPTs
  • Work closely with IPT members and regulatory authorities on hardware field investigations to drive root cause and recommend product improvements
  • Proactively monitor, characterize, and trend part condition data in support of durability, safety, limits expansion, and repair activities
  • Provide technical support to engine center operations through interpretation of technical data and communication of special engineering requests
  • Support engineering goals of improving Flight Safety, reducing Aircraft on Ground (AOG) occurrences, improving the GTF product, and maturing the PW1000G MRO network
  • Up to 10% travel may be required

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • U.S. Person or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.
