What You Will Do
The ECU Principal PHM System Engineer role for the F135 Engine Core Upgrade (ECU) Program will be responsible for supporting the effective execution of PHM/CBM system. The successful candidate will be familiar with the complete lifecycle of a typical program and apply the appropriate activities to the ECU program. This includes defining the subsystem requirements for hardware and software, advancing a variety of technologies for gas path diagnostics, fault detection and isolation through Machine Learning (ML) and Big Data Analytics. PHM Sensing Systems cover front to back of the Propulsion System and interface with aircraft software for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) fleet management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform sub-system trade studies
- Develop On-Board and Off-board Algorithms for Usage Based Lifing (UBL) and Condition Based Inspection (CBI)
- Implement Artificial Intelligent/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Fault Detection, Isolation and Removal
- Manage Data system requirement between Propulsion System and Airframer software
- Support the definition of data collection requirements and coordinate implementation of false alarm mitigations.
- Advance new technologies for sensors and algorithm for PHM/CBM
- Support generation of health management performance metrics.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- 8 years of experience in mechanical design, development and or test with a bachelor's degree and 5 with an advanced degree
- US Person Status required due to government contracts.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Statistics, databases, and data analytics experience.
- Development and deployment of analytics in a collaborative environment
- Systems experience though various phases of program progression
- Experience in coordinating multiple organizations to deliver on schedule and on budget.
- Familiarity with F135 Controls and Diagnostics, Analytics, Sensor Data and processing techniques
- A track record of delivering results in a cross-functional team environment.
- Experience with model based system engineering
- Prior engine IPT or flight/ground test experience
- Strong ability to effectively communicate with customers and all levels of management
- Experience working with military customers and being comfortable presenting to both military and PW leadership.
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance

- Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development, including requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate the control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.
- The Diagnostics, Prognostics and Health Management (DPHM) discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting-edge data acquisition systems, diagnostics, prognostics, and analytics. This includes Usage Based Lifing (UBL) for P&W engines and components and deploying state of the art development tools & methodologies.
- Together, these technologies inform and enable Condition Based Maintenance / Inspection (CBM/CBI), yielding operational improvements and increased safety.

- Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
- Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.
- This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help sure up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.
The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
